We keep going amid the lockdown. There are new releases, and still, new music coming through, and buying music right now is the only way we can help. The events listing is still being updated, but obviously, an awful lot is being postponed, cancelled or changed right now.
The madness of 2020 has not been kind to autocratic or authoritarian leaders, who have been left wanting when it comes to dealing with a crisis that came pretty much out of nowhere, and that they can’t spin themselves out of. That said, all of them are still in power as I write this.
The current lockdown has stopped the entertainment industry – at least in terms of physical venues – dead in its tracks, but I guess one of the benefits of the internet age is that we can do things online instead. So, after years of considering whether to bring Stormblast back in one form or another […]
There appear to be a lot of competing stories around how the numbers 420 got associated with smoking cannabis. But either way, the 420 number has stuck, and so, I couldn’t miss out on a numerically relevant /Tuesday Ten, could I?

Back around to the /Tracks of the Month already, a bit sooner than usual for two reasons – one, last month’s was later than normal because of the way the dates fell, and two, well, you’ll see next week. The usual summer lull – well, in a relative sense – has also allowed me to […]

Twenty-five years ago yesterday (20-July 1995), I made it to my first proper gig. I headed over to Roundhay Park in the north-eastern edges of Leeds, along with tens of thousands of others, to the first night of the Heineken Festival that year, ostensibly to see Pop Will Eat Itself, but that evening I also […]

Two years after I started to think about a /Tuesday Ten on the senses, and I finally come to the end of what has been a pretty difficult subject to write about. Lots of metaphor and double-meaning has had to be dug through to find the right songs to feature over six posts, and I […]

Into July, the lockdown is easing a bit, but there is still the concern of a resurgence. So we wait it out some more, a long-overdue pledge to help fund the arts sector has been made (although there are still concerns, frankly), so with no live events, there is seemingly ever more music to listen […]

Just over two years ago, I asked for suggestions around songs involving the senses. Needless to say, this ended up being a gargantuan thread, with the easy decision made to split it out.
