Tuesday Ten: 107: Stuck on Repeat
When I first thought about it, this was inspired by a seemingly never-ending parade of bands who seem to have come up with nothing new themselves that I keep hearing.

Long-lived bands in industrial music are nothing unusual – it sometimes feels like few of the big names in the genre have ever really gone away since the 80s – but to have a band still sounding as vital as Skinny Puppy frequently do is a rare thing indeed. This was the third time I’ve […]
Back in the mists of time (in other words, back in 2009), I did a rundown of – according to me – the best songs and albums of the past decade, and then followed it up with similar treatment of the 90s. Although, I only ever got the best songs done.
I’ve been thinking a lot about death of late. A friend sadly passed away on Sunday night after a long battle with illness, while in the musical world the death of Alex Chilton, frontman of Big Star, last week cast something of a shadow over SXSW – not least because he was due to play […]
Over halfway, and we’re into the Top 100.
Continuing from last week, it’s time to move onto the third stage of my rundown of the last decade. Also, as this autumn marks twenty years of my being “into” alternative music, after this decade’s rundown there will be a similar one to follow for the 90s (for which the “draft” list we pulled together […]
I’m sure I’ve at least mentioned these in passing before, but I can’t find it (the perils of using titles to posts that don’t actually tell me all that much when searching for things!), so it’s perhaps overdue that I make this into a Tuesday Ten, especially with such an interesting response on Facebook and […]
This week's TT is the first of four "end of the year" lists that will come between now and Christmas, one each Tuesday, detailing my best – and worst – of the year.
So, this week's Tuesday Ten. It's kinda ended up as a Tuesday Twenty, in fact. Let me explain…After the apparent controversy of a negative list last week, it's time for something rather more positive. So what did I settle on? Well, I recently passed three years of having tcf in Sheffield (at the same venue […]
Skinny Puppy’s trimuphant return after a few years away three years back really was something special. OK, so The Greater Wrong of The Right wasn’t perfect, but it got better on repeated listens and the live show made the return all the sweeter – and perhaps more important still.
First, the bad points. Due to what appeared to be perhaps a lower turnout than expected, the gig got bumped from Academy 2 (the MDH) to Academy 3 (the Hop’n’Grape). So it was a little toasty. No support, either. Which made the next bit all the more annoying – a curfew at 2300, the band […]
It’s kinda scary really. I have been reading others’ lists for albums of the year and trying to think what mine are. And I can barely think of any. Has this year been a bad year for music, or is it just that I have been distracted by things for much of the year and […]
Last night lived up to all its billing and far, far more: by general agreement the best gig most of us had ever been to.
