/DJ/Rivet/014 – 05-Feb 2021
After some years of talking about it – and struggling to find a venue – Andy and I decided finally to bring /Rivet back in 2020, and in 2021, we’re back as long as lockdown allows.

The whole business of the side-project is something that has kept industrial artists busy pretty much since the genre was a thing. Some work brilliantly, some are instantly forgettable, and some have become better known than the parent project.
The first Friday of February, and it is Bandcamp Day once again – so there is a deluge of new releases and release announcements this week, perhaps more than I’ve ever had on one Friday to cover. Livestreams and waiting for new releases seem to be the order of the day for now, still, so […]
A really enjoyable evening playing extreme metal last night, with a good number of new songs played from 2021 releases, as well as a variety of old and new tracks otherwise. I’m conscious that I need to keep the night fresh with new music as much as possible, as the scene evolves.
One month, then, of what is likely to be a difficult year for many of us, is out of the way. At least here in the Northern Hemisphere, the days start to get longer, it might stop raining quite so much, it even might get a bit warmer.
The last Friday of January, daylight is edging into the early evening, and maybe hints of Spring are starting to appear. Lockdown looks like it’s going to go on for a while yet, mind, festivals are beginning to be cancelled for the summer (again), and so livestreams and waiting for new releases seem to be […]
After a few weeks of resuming lockdown-related /Tuesday Ten posts, I thought this week a diversion into something a little more frivolous might be needed. So I’m returning to an occasional subject of numbers.
Three weeks into January, Trump is gone from the White House, but things still feel pretty bleak here in the UK. Lockdown looks like it’s going to go on for a while yet, festivals are beginning to be cancelled for the summer (again), and so livestreams and waiting for new releases seem to be the […]
After the trials of /Stormblast/144, and that truncated night, it was something of a “back to normal” night tonight, with another strong turnout and friendly chat alongside the music.
As we continue in this strange new world, home-based entertainment is now the thing. So, I guess one of the benefits of the internet age is that we can do things online instead. This has allowed me to experiment a bit.
Continuing my occasional Lockdown-related series of posts, this week I move onto disobedience. Sadly, amid this pandemic – that just seems to bring bad news by the day, even as vaccinations are now rolling on – there are a whole host of people who seem to want to deny everything, find other reasons (however batshit) […]
At some point back in the weeks before Christmas – and yes, booze might have been involved – as we had an evening watching a Nu-Metal countdown on one of the music channels, we resolved that it might be fun to do a night revolving around that.
Two weeks into January, and we’re back to the current, er, normal? Regular working weeks, regular online events, and the schedule of new music releases resumes again today. So, back to the usual Friday roundups
The beginning of 2021 sees a couple of notable North American industrial artists releasing new albums on the same day. Front Line Assembly return with Mechanical Soul, but perhaps even more interestingly, there is also the return of a band that has barely released any music in the past decade.
There’s a lot of anger about at the moment, and perhaps rightly so. Frustration at the seemingly never-ending restrictions, the false hope from politicians, the double-standards, the desire for a “normal” life again that sometimes feels like it’s in reach before being snatched away again. Oh yes, life back in Lockdown again really fucking sucks, […]

2021 has picked up where 2020 left off, but despite the lockdown and everything else, there is still a lot of music to come your way this year. And as is traditional at the beginning of the year, /amodelofcontrol.com attempts to round-up the new music that we’re aware of, that’s due to be released this […]
That was a frustrating start to Livestreams in 2021. The platform had some unexpected issues after 21:00, which for the first time meant that I cut short the scheduled set, and thus missed out on a few things I was saving until later. Oh well, it happens.
My longstanding policy of cutting off my best-of-year considerations at 30-Nov each year does, admittedly, leave me in the position of potentially missing out on important releases in December. But, I have to cut-off somewhere, and stopping at the end of November at least gives me a chance to write my end-of-year lists (they take […]
The Chaos Emergency Doof Broadcast Network, run by Lee Chaos and DJ Duracell Bunny, has been an enjoyable corner of madness every week – and occasionally at weekends, too – across 2020, and perhaps unsurprisingly, another big event came about for New Year’s Eve.
