Welcome to the Future: 072: Events, gigs and new release round-up 22-February 2019

It’s Friday, therefore time for the usual amodelofcontrol.com round-up of new music coming your way this week and soon, as well as a look at the events and gigs in the future, and finally nods to any other notable news that affects artists and music that I cover here.

transmission – the amodelofcontrol.com podcast – had begun the run through of the a-z of industrial, with all episodes here. The latest episode was released a few months ago (transmission: 012). transmission: 013 will be out as soon as I have the time to rebuild the whole damned thing…

You can also get it via RSS, on iTunes, on Stitcher, and is also now available on the new Google Podcasts App (search “amodelofcontrol”).

If you want to submit anything to be included here? E-mail me (You know what to do with that to make it work, right?), comment/message on Facebook at the amodelofcontrol.com page, and over on Twitter (@amodelofcontrol).

New and Upcoming Releases this week

There’s a heck of a set of new albums out this week.

Swiss industrial legends – and one of the best live bands I’ve ever seen – The Young Gods return with their first album of new material since 2010, DATA MIRAGE TANGRAM. It’s the Young Gods alright, but there are some interesting changes in direction along the way. Teeth of the Sea release the much-anticipated WRAITH, which on the first couple of listens is potentially their best album yet. At points it is certainly the loudest.

London post-punkers Desperate Journalist release their third album In Search of the Miraculous today, too, and from the singles (I’ll be buying the album later today) it looks like a bigger audience is on the cards as they sound all the better and sharper. Finally, OHM return as OHMelectronic, and their new self-titled album has them baring their teeth. The album was reviewed in full on But Listen: 159 earlier this week.

A new PIG Remix album is on the way Stripped & Whipped, out 22-March, while Gesaffelstein releases that long-awaited new album on 08-March.

Newly signed to Artoffact are the Dutch band GOLD, and their staggering new single He Is Not can be heard here, while the new album Why Aren’t You Laughing? is released on 05-April.

While as we’d expected, perhaps, a full Stereolab reissue series and tour is coming.

Other Music News

A worthwhile read – Why are women underrepresented in music – look to the Ryan Adams story.

A quite astonishing tour in the US is of Ministry doing Wax Trax! Era material, Cold Cave, and a showing of the new Wax Trax! film Industrial Accident. I can only hope they bring that to the UK…
