/Tuesday Ten/009/Tracks of the Month/June 2007
A new month, so it’s time for my usual rundown of 10 tracks that I think everyone else should hear. A real mix of genres this month, as well.

Last night saw me head to Corporation as planned to see Boris. I didn’t bother with the support bands, but Boris themselves were really worth the effort. Their output has shifted across countless styles over the years, but in the main we were treated to the more psychedelic, acid-fried rock from Pink, some of the […]
This week I'm going to turn my attention once again to the recent past. To look at bands that for one reason or another are "forgotten", or have "dropped off the radar". Either they are now little more than a footnote in musical history, or they never got the recognition they deserved, or they used […]
So while 177,000 people get drenched and covered in mud at some small festival down in the southwest, a number of us were at the Grendel gig at Corp last night. And let’s be honest, we probably came out just as drenched as the festival-goers – but with sweat. With pre-sales being a little sluggish, […]
Last night was the second 3ulogy gig in three weeks in Sheffield, supported this time by the Leicester-based noise act DirtyK.
This week's Tuesday Ten is inspired by our encounters with our rather noisy neighbours over the past twelve months, and indeed is also partly inspired today by my really shitty mood. They appear to be in the process of moving out, at long last, happily – or at least we haven't heard a peep from […]
The last of the short-lived Resonance night. While the two live events were a success, the night itself never paid for itself, and indeed it was made moot by the closure of thesubculture later that year. We did, however, have an incredible poster done for us by Doctor Geof, and it was eventually turned into […]
This was my first opportunity to see 3ulogy live for quite some time. Before them, though, it was a couple of support acts, who had been added to the bill at short notice after the dropping out of both Nightmoves and Karmanaut, neither of which I was too keen on anyway.
Here is a band that sound as if they come from about as far away from their base as is humanly possible. Rather than the clanking industrial history, the grey skies and steep hills of Sheffield, putting this CD on transports to you to areas like the deserts, and sunshine, perhaps, of California. The land […]
My predilection for music lists at the moment may be coming across all a bit High Fidelity, but it is in the main me rummaging through the boxes of musical history in my mind – that and I am finding it quite a lot of fun hunting through the archives of YouTube. In addition, of […]
A big hit for a previously less well-known band can sometimes be a blessing, or a curse. Grendel are one of those bands that have had this happen, with the dancefloor monster of Soilbleed eclipsing all their previous output to the point that unless you knew of the band before it, it is difficult to […]
It is now 13 months since I last touched upon recorded output from this band – the demo CD I reviewed then did get a release of sorts a little further down the line, with one track jettisoned and then the remainder shuffled into a new order.
It’s simply amazing how a leaving a record label and effectively starting afresh can revitalise a band. Chimaira’s new album is a perfect example of this – their well-publicised departure from Roadrunner and subsequent signing to Nuclear Blast has certainly brought about something of a desire to push themselves back to the front of the […]
Somehow it feels like the stars are out of line, or something. A new NIN album, after just two years? Usually the wait is nearer five.
I’ll be honest, the title when this got announced had me a little worried. What on earth were they on about? When the CD was picked up, suddenly it all makes sense. We have a concept album.
I’ve been getting the distinct feeling of late that maybe the time had passed for bands like A23 and similar EBM/futurepop acts. This kind of music reached it’s peak (in terms of popularity, and maybe even in creativity) a few years back, even though the odd song still happily fills dancefloors. In it’s place has […]
The release of this track as a single has been a long time coming. Skullfuck has now been slaying industrial club dancefloors for the best part of 18 months, and still shows no sign of stopping. So, I won’t say too much about it, as I’m sure you will have heard it. Suffice to say, […]
Resurrecting a once-formidable reputation, particularly in metal circles, is a notoriously hard job. One bad album, or a contentious comment, can do the world of harm – just ask Metallica.
Opinion appears to have been sharply divided on this band ever since they first appeared on compilations well over a year ago. Many (including me) love the whole tongue-in-cheek aspect of the project, the fact that nothing strays outside the Zombie theme, and surprisingly, perhaps, that it does more than just straight EBM. Others can’t […]
Monday meant the second instalment of Resonance Live. For a gig that in hindsight perhaps was somewhat under-promoted, and at the tail-end of two hefty festival weekens (not to mention on a Monday night), the turnout was perhaps better than I was expecting. Still, a shame that a number of people left before CDatakill hit […]
