As we accelerate into 2018, it is time to resume my interview series. The first one of this year talks to an act who are returning after a few years away, and resuming operations after an unexpected tragedy.

There is something about the mythical “big city” that despite pretty much all advice to the contrary, keeps on pulling people in. Something of a land of opportunity, where there are jobs, there are things to do, perhaps even somewhere where you can “shed a skin” and be something you might not be able to […]
Another Friday, another round-up. As always this is a look at upcoming releases, relevant music news and upcoming events and gigs worth spending some of your time at. It is by no means an exhaustive list, and I’m always on the lookout for more to include.
The first Tuesday Ten of 2018, and I’m starting quietly. Kinda. What is silence in musical terms? Silence is an absence of music, I guess. But wiki has a great description:
The first Friday of 2018, and amodelofcontrol.com rumbles back into life. Starting with…this week’s round-up of music coming your way in 2018 (that’s relevant to this ‘site, anyway), and a look at what is coming next here, too. It’s all about the future. Well, mostly.
Some statistics: over 2017, I saw 114 live sets, across 45 days-worth of events (I count festivals by the day, so Infest covers three days-worth of events). Remarkably, by the way, my wife Daisy saw 18 days-worth of the 45 with me (perhaps a larger number than usual!).
Onto week three of Countdown: 2017 on amodelofcontrol.com, and this week I’m looking at the best albums of the year. Despite the move towards, it seems, streaming services and a more disjointed approach to listening, I still find that the albums of the year “award” remains the more important one, and it’s why it comes […]
The second part of Transmission, the a-z of industrial. Finding bands within the genre beginning with B turned out to be more difficult than I perhaps expected, and made me realise that certain letters may well end up spreading over more than one episode. But that’s for the future.
Onto week two of Countdown: 2017 on amodelofcontrol.com, and this week I’m looking at the best tracks of the year. These might be the singles, they might be album tracks, they might be one-offs. But all of them are songs I love in one way or another. Weirdly, some of these have been really difficult […]
All things must come to an end, and last night, the long-running club night JUDDER came to an end after fourteen years. It had one hell of a send-off, as appropriate for an often wild and crazy night over the years.
Another Friday, another weekly round-up. This is, as readers should know by now, a look at new music, upcoming music and events, and any other music news that might be worth talking about. In addition I also round up what has been on amodelofcontrol.com in the past week to.
Welcome to the amodelofcontrol.com review of 2017, which begins this week. Over this and the next three Tuesdays, I’ll be rounding up the best music of the year in various categories. In coming weeks there will be the best tracks, the best albums, and the best gigs.

It is easy to forget, sometimes, that what we call “our scene” in the industrial world is not one homogenous entity. While bands that reach wider popularity will naturally appear on DJ playlists just about everywhere, there are a whole load of bands – either new or that have been around for a while – […]
I have been following Amanda Palmer – and her original band The Dresden Dolls – for a great deal longer than I thought. I remember stumbling across the latter band at a party we were hosting back in 2004, when a friend played me Coin-Operated Boy, and I was curious enough to go and get […]
Work is now in full-flow on Countdown: 2017 on amodelofcontrol.com. I think I’ve now considered everything that I feel is worthy of featuring in the end of year lists, even the very latest releases, and the job now is to write like a demon over the next couple of weeks, and do all the formatting […]
I’ve been hinting at this for a while, and finally, here we go. amodelofcontrol.com, as I’ve hinted, has gained a voice at last, and if you’ve never heard me speak before (in my previous days on Dark Assimilation, or on occasional guest appearances at I Die: You Die), here’s your chance I guess.
I’m nearing the end of the Tuesday Ten series for 2017 (it’ll be back in January 2018, of course), but before it takes a break and I’m rounding up the end of the year, there is just time for a couple more.
I’m now in full-on “shit, what have I missed” mode on amodelofcontrol.com. This is as I’m frantically digging through everything I’ve written about this year, everything I’ve listened to, making sure that nothing really great is missing from the end of year round-up. It has happened before, where I’ve questioned later “how on earth did […]
The final tracks of the month for this year, so this one is slightly longer than usual as I try and crowbar in as many songs as possible to clear the decks. That’s because we’re just weeks away from starting to round-up the year in music, and there’s been so much good stuff this year […]
