/Welcome to the Future /225 /Events, Livestreams and new releases 07-Oct 2022

For the first time in a long time, I’ve missed a couple of weeks of release roundups, so I have an awful lot to cover this week, with three weeks of new releases to feature (various events need adding to the listing, too, these will be added over the weekend).

This post is a roundup of (relevant to this site) new and upcoming music, a nod to upcoming events and livestreams both from this website and others, and also a catchup of what I’ve posted recently. Thanks to everyone who sends me new music and events, keeps me up to speed, and indeed simply reads these posts.

/transmission – the amodelofcontrol.com podcast – has returned, continuing the run through of the a-z of industrial, with all episodes thus far are here. The latest episode is /transmission/024, which starts on the letter P. /transmission/025 will follow soon – at last!

You can also get it via RSS, on iTunes, on Stitcher, and is also now available on the Google Podcasts App (search “amodelofcontrol”) and Spotify too.

If you want to submit anything to be included here? E-mail me (You know what to do with that to make it work, right?), comment/message on Facebook at the amodelofcontrol.com page, and over on Twitter (@amodelofcontrol).

/Releases out today or recently

/Album of the Week
07-Oct 2022 / A.A. Williams / As The Moon Rests /Bandcamp
The doomy alt-rock of A.A. Williams has been a regular listening comfort over the past few years, but this new album? It knocks everything else they have done so far out of the park.

/New Albums
14-Aug 2022 / The Peoples Republic of Europe / Purge the Unbelievers /Bandcamp
Actually released in August, I’d missed it until recently. Do tPRoE ever stop? Apparently their twenty-ninth album, this is more thundering noisy joy.
20-Sep 2022 / Various Artists / This is Glitch Mode /Bandcamp
Another top-quality compilation from tech-industrial collective Glitch Mode.
23-Sep 2022 / <PIG> / The Merciless Light /Bandcamp
The best release from Raymond Watts in some time.
23-Sep 2022 / A Shoreline Dream / Loveblind /Bandcamp
Gorgeous, dreamy psych-rock from the US duo.
23-Sep 2022 / Cold Gawd / God Get Me the Fuck Out of Here /Bandcamp
It turns out modern R&B influenced shoegaze is a really fucking good idea.
23-Sep 2022 / Editors / EBM /Bandcamp
It might be a bit longer than it needs to be, but this is the best Editors album since their debut.
23-Sep 2022 / FTR / Vicky Vivid Experience /Bandcamp
This French noisy/post-punk group kinda vanished off the radar a bit, but their new album is a strong return.
23-Sep 2022 / GAEREA / Mirage /Bandcamp
Brutal, intense black metal from Portugal that sounds like it is going to swallow you whole.
23-Sep 2022 / KEN Mode / Null /Bandcamp
Talking of brutal, KEN Mode would also like a word, their take on noise rock is about as extreme as I’ve heard.
23-Sep 2022 / The Ludovico Technique / Haunted People /Bandcamp
It seems to have been promised for aeons, and it has finally materialised…
23-Sep 2022 / The Soft Moon / Exister /Bandcamp
Luis Vasquez continues his bracing experiments with shoegaze, industrial and post-punk to fantastic effect.
30-Sep 2022 / Autopsy / Morbidity Triumphant /Bandcamp
New Death Metal from one of the masters.
30-Sep 2022 / Björk / Fossora /Official Artist Store
Björk’s new album delivers on everything promised pre-release, and despite the apparently chaotic mix of ingredients, somehow it all works brilliantly, and is marvellously, unexpectedly accessible.
30-Sep 2022 / Slipknot / The End, So Far /Official Artist Store
Slipknot finish their time with Roadrunner with a surprisingly diverse release.
30-Sep 2022 / Yeah Yeah Yeahs / Cool It Down /Bandcamp
The first YYY album in ages is mature, and actually pretty good.
07-Oct 2022 / Cloud Rat / Threshold /Bandcamp
Michigan grind stalwarts Cloud Rat are here to fuck you up.
07-Oct 2022 / Lamb of God / Omens /Official Artist Store
Lamb of God continue to do what they do very well – shit-kicking metal that ticks all the boxes it should.
07-Oct 2022 / Ritual Dictates / No Great Loss /Bandcamp
Members of 3 Inches of Blood and Revocation continue this project, a surprisingly lush symphonic metal sound.

/New Singles/EPs
28-Sep 2022 / Apache Helicopter / We Fight EP /Spotify
Impressive Martial Industrial from this Kent-based project.
29-Sep 2022 / Randolph & Mortimer / What Are You? EP /Bandcamp
R&M dust off an older track with an outstanding set of remixes.
05-Oct 2022 / Ganser / Nothing You Do Matters EP /Bandcamp
The first new songs in a little while from Ganser, and they keep the quality high.
07-Oct 2022 / Normal Bias / Normal Bias /Bandcamp
Cabs-esque industrial funk meets the dancefloor power of Multiple Man (one of whom is involved in this project). Bring it the fuck on.
07-Oct 2022 / Where We Sleep / The Power Song /Bandcamp
The latest single from Where We Sleep is a snarling, furious track (and great, too), and an unusual foray into political comment from Beth Rettig, too.
07-Oct 2022 / Caustic / Not Your Body (The Oehler Remixes) /Bandcamp
Eric Oehler remixes the excellent recent Caustic single under pretty much every hat he wears.

/Compilations, Live Albums, Reissues
23-Sep 2022 / Empathy Test / Time To Be Alive /Bandcamp
Visa delays sadly nixed their US tour, so this nicely recorded live album will do in the meantime.
23-Sep 2022 / Neu! / Neu! (50th Anniversary) /Groenland Store
A lavish reissue of one of the most influential “rock” albums ever, complete with some fascinating reinterpretations by artists that they influenced.
30-Sep 2022 / Alice in Chains / Dirt (30th Anniversary Edition) /Official Artist Store
Probably the greatest, most harrowing grunge album of them all marks thirty years since release.
07-Oct 2022 / Headswim / Flood Redux /Bandcamp
A long-overdue reappraisal of one of the lost classics of the mid-90s: Headswim’s psych-grunge debut that has had a remaster and additional tracks added for the re-release, along with a reunion show tonight in London (that I’ll be at).
07-Oct 2022 / Various Artists / Heavy /Bandcamp
Artoffact showcase their heavier, metallic side on this new compilation.

/Upcoming releases announced this past few weeks

14-Oct 2022 / Boy Harsher / Burn it Down EP /Bandcamp
An unexpected new song from Boy Harsher, which sees them on the new Hallowe’en Ends soundtrack.
25-Oct 2022 / Mentallo & The Fixer / No Rest For The Wicked: 30th Anniversary /Bandcamp
A most unexpected re-release is the debut album from the influential electro-industrialists Mentallo & The Fixer.
04-Nov 2022 / Ploho / Когда душа спит (When the soul sleeps) /Bandcamp
The Siberian post-punk band return.

/Upcoming/Livestreams/Gigs/Club Nights/Events

Obviously, things change at short notice right now, and I’m updating events as they are postponed or cancelled, and also including relevant Livestreams as they are announced.

/amodelofcontrol.com continues to maintain an events calendar, but it has now moved to /amodelofcontrol.com/events – and is now a dynamic, searchable database, and you can add individual events to your own calendars. I’m currently fixing a couple of minor backend issues, so new events may not be added promptly, or be added sporadically.

If you have updates, relevant events for me, or want to tell me about something else, use the contact details above. It goes without saying that any gig or club still in the listing is subject to change at short notice, or may not happen at all.
