/Welcome to the Future /248 /Events, Livestreams and New Releases 02-Jun 2023

What I thought was a quieter week for music turns out to be anything but.

This post is a roundup of (relevant to this site) new and upcoming music, a nod to upcoming events and livestreams both from this website and others, and also a catchup of what I’ve posted recently. Thanks to everyone who sends me new music and events, keeps me up to speed, and indeed simply reads these posts.

/transmission – the amodelofcontrol.com podcast – has returned, continuing the run through of the a-z of industrial, with all episodes thus far are here. The latest episode is /transmission/024, which starts on the letter P. /transmission/025 will follow soon – at last!

You can also get it via RSS, on iTunes, on Stitcher, and is also now available on the Google Podcasts App (search “amodelofcontrol”) and Spotify too.

If you want to submit anything to be included here? E-mail me (You know what to do with that to make it work, right?), comment/message on Facebook at the amodelofcontrol.com page, and over on Twitter (@amodelofcontrol).

/Releases out today or recently

/Release of the Week

02-Jun 2023 / Bully / Lucky for You / Bandcamp
Glorious anthemic alt-rock from this US artist – single Days Run Slow has had permanent residence in my head for weeks.

/New Albums

26-May 2023 / A Covenant of Thorns / Ashes / Bandcamp
Excellent darkwave from this longstanding US artist.
26-May 2023 / BARA HARI / Lesser Gods / Bandcamp
Full of hooks and wonderful songs, this is remarkably upbeat darkwave.
02-Jun 2023 / Ben Folds / What Matters Most / Rough Trade
The first new album from Ben Folds in quite a while.
02-Jun 2023 / Chernaya Rechka / Chernaya Rechka / Bandcamp
Quite marvellous post-punk from this Russian band.
02-Jun 2023 / De Staat / Red Yellow Blue / Rough Trade
The Dutch alt-rock experimentalists complete their colours project with a physical release of the fifteen-song set (which has included some of their best songs to date).
02-Jun 2023 / Girls Under Glass / Backdraft / Bandcamp
The German darkwave veterans return with their first album in nearly twenty years.
02-Jun 2023 / PUPIL SLICER / BLOSSOM / Bandcamp
The much-touted London mathcore/grind/metal band return with their second album, and going on the first single, to subvert expectations, too.

/New Singles/EPs

23-May 2023 / Pneumatic Detach / South of Dystopia / Bandcamp
The first new EP from Pneumatic Detach in many years (although two of the tracks have been released over the past year).
25-May 2023 / NOIR / Fallen/ Bandcamp
Lockdown delayed things somewhat, but the new EP from Athan Maroulis and Erik Gustafson leads off with another great new song, some great remixes and an intriguing acoustic cover.
31-May 2023 / 3TEETH / Slum Planet / Spotify
The second in the run of singles coming before the new album is an industrial metal behemoth with a chorus to match.
01-Jun 2023 / Code Orange / Grooming My Replacement/The Game / Spotify
Code Orange surprise released two new tracks yesterday, and they show a marked return to face-melting hardcore (no complaints here).
02-Jun 2023 / Mari Kattman / Swallow / Bandcamp
A quite fabulous new EP from Mari Kattman sees her lean into new styles, with impressive results.

/New Compilations, Live Albums, Reissues

26-May 2023 / Protectorate / MIXZ / Bandcamp
Last year’s second album from Protectorate was one of the best releases of the year, and this is a solid set of remixes to follow it up.

/Upcoming Releases

/Upcoming Albums

28-Jun 2023 / Brutalist Architecture In The Sun / Loneliness Kills / Bandcamp
The long-promised new album from this Kentish cold/minimal wave duo.
21-Jul 2023 / Slighter / This Futile Engine / Bandcamp
The lead single Have No Fearconfirms what I was expecting – intricate, immaculately produced electronics and that distinct edge with melody.
22-Sep 2023 / KEN Mode / VOID / Bandcamp
Hot on the heels of last year’s excellent NULL, KEN Mode are back with another album of noisy rock savagery.

/Upcoming EPs/Singles

09-Jun 2023 / Comfort Cure / Design International / Bandcamp
The lead track from this Detroit EBM artist is a scorcher, a good thing that we’ve only got a week to wait for the EP.

/Upcoming Compilations, Live Albums, Reissues

19-Jun 2023 / Code Industry / Structure / Bandcamp
…and a throwback from Detroit in the same vein, a re-issue of this group’s 1991 EP, an early mix of Detroit techno and EBM – and thus years ahead of it’s time.

/Upcoming/Livestreams/Gigs/Club Nights/Events

Obviously, things change at short notice right now, and I’m updating events as they are postponed or cancelled, and also including relevant Livestreams as they are announced.

/amodelofcontrol.com continues to maintain an events calendar, but it has now moved to /amodelofcontrol.com/events – and is now a dynamic, searchable database, and you can add individual events to your own calendars. I’m currently fixing a couple of minor backend issues, so new events may not be added promptly, or be added sporadically.

If you have updates, relevant events for me, or want to tell me about something else, use the contact details above. It goes without saying that any gig or club still in the listing is subject to change at short notice, or may not happen at all.
