/Tuesday Ten /498 /Pump Up The Volume
As I edge ever-closer to the 500th /Tuesday Ten, this week, I’m celebrating volume.

An intriguing, and sometimes busy, first month in my new job has seen a fair bit of travel, and thus time to listen to new music (as well as old favourites). So here we go with this month’s /Tracks of the Month. /Tuesday Ten/485/Tracks of the Month /Subject /Tracks of the Month /Playlists /Spotify / […]
A certain friend suggested recently that I open a suggestion thread for songs with four-letter titles (that were actual words – no punctuation, no abbreviations, no numbers). It spawned something of a monster, as I also asked about three-, two- and one-letter song titles (with the same rules).
Two years after I started to think about a /Tuesday Ten on the senses, and I finally come to the end of what has been a pretty difficult subject to write about. Lots of metaphor and double-meaning has had to be dug through to find the right songs to feature over six posts, and I […]
Onto week two of /Countdown/2019 on amodelofcontrol.com, and this week I’m looking at the best tracks of the year. These might be the singles, they might be album tracks, they might be one-offs. But all of them are songs I love in one way or another, and they aren’t all necessarily songs that fall within […]
Infest 2019 is now already disappearing into the rearview mirror (Full coverage from this site on /Memory of a Festival/033, if you’ve not already seen it), and summer is beginning to vanish with it as the weather starts to cool. So, we’re in September, and here’s this month’s wrap of the best ten tracks I’ve […]
Back to the usual routine this week post-Infest – the full Infest review is linked at the bottom. This is the usual amodelofcontrol.com round-up, of new music coming your way this week and soon, as well as a look at the events and gigs in the future, and finally nods to any other notable news […]
It’s Friday, therefore time for the usual amodelofcontrol.com round-up of new music coming your way this week and soon, as well as a look at the events and gigs in the future, and finally nods to any other notable news that affects artists and music that I cover here.
This coming weekend, it’s the Superbowl – the culmination of the American Football season in the US, and for others, the biggest advertising platform of the year. Last year’s event saw the best part of 100 million in the US alone tune in, and a thirty-second advert costs $5 million due to the crazy potential […]
Following on from last week and my excursion into mathematics, this week I take things further – and perhaps you could call this post…further mathematics. I never quite got as far as further mathematics, choosing “just” to do Pure & Applied Mathematics alongside Physics at A-Level, which was not among my better academic choices. Maths […]
Onto part eight of my 1996 roundup. As a reminder, I’m marking twenty years of writing about music (my writing long pre-dates this website going live) across this year with a monthly look at ten releases from 1996, where possible in chronological order.
These last few weeks have had a lot of thinking about time and the past. Be that looking at events in the past, anniversaries (of relationships, also of albums, of movements), or celebrating past lives. Needless to say, there are a lot of songs touching on the subject, some perhaps more oblique than others.
This week, my Tuesday Ten series goes in a new direction – as I’ve not written it. A few weeks ago, I posted an innocent post on Facebook asking my friends what they considered their perfect albums…and got an avalanche of suggestions. Over 100 comments and 150 suggested albums later, I thought it might be […]
After taking a bit of a break from these series of Tuesday Tens based upon (quite random) subjects – I think I needed to to allow me to come up with some new ideas – I seem to have hit upon some inspiration for future lists again, so expect these to be a little more […]
I was a little surprised, I have to admit, when I realised just how many songs my partner and I could think of that reference, are tenuously linked to, or are actually about this week’s subject. So, what am I on about this week? Food and drink. That is, the non-alcoholic variety (I’ve covered alcohol […]
So after a couple of weeks of work, here are my top twenty albums of the 90s. There is again a Spotify playlist accompaniment to it, which is this time missing four entries, which with it being the top twenty is a little frustrating…
Last but one – those just outside the top twenty.
Following on from the rundown of my top 100 tracks of the decade, it’s now time for my top fifty albums of the decade, which starts today and will be concluded next week (I wanted this done by Whitby and the end of the month).
Comedians have always influenced music in various ways, but no-one seems to have been sampled, remixed or simply been such an inspiration to various musicians like Bill Hicks – well, with the exception of Lenny Bruce, perhaps.
As promised last week, here is the second part of my favourite albums of the 90s. Same rules as before, this time the list takes a more metallic edge, perhaps. These ten are in chronological order, just about, by the way.
