Into July, the lockdown is easing a bit, but there is still the concern of a resurgence. So we wait it out some more, a long-overdue pledge to help fund the arts sector has been made (although there are still concerns, frankly), so with no live events, there is seemingly ever more music to listen […]
We keep going amid the lockdown. There are new releases, and still, new music coming through, and buying music right now is the only way we can help. The events listing is still being updated, but obviously, an awful lot is being postponed, cancelled or changed right now.
Continuing the process of wrapping up the last decade before it disappears too far into the rearview mirror, this is the final part of the best albums of the 2010s. This has been an interesting, and memory-laden trip doing this list. I’ve dredged up a few memories, reconnected with a few albums I’d not heard […]
Onto week two of /Countdown/2019 on amodelofcontrol.com, and this week I’m looking at the best tracks of the year. These might be the singles, they might be album tracks, they might be one-offs. But all of them are songs I love in one way or another, and they aren’t all necessarily songs that fall within […]
Infest 2019 is now already disappearing into the rearview mirror (Full coverage from this site on /Memory of a Festival/033, if you’ve not already seen it), and summer is beginning to vanish with it as the weather starts to cool. So, we’re in September, and here’s this month’s wrap of the best ten tracks I’ve […]

After a mainly awful day at work today, it has been a useful reminder of why, really, I work: money.
Part four of my 2013 rundown – and this was a difficult list to do. Very difficult. And for the first time in a number of years, it took until the last week to finally decide once and for all on the top five in particular.
This will be the last monthly roundup of 2013, as at the beginning of December I will be turning my attention – as usual – to rounding up the year in music. There has been a hell of a lot to consider, too, as 2013 has been something of a bumper year for music as […]
Yet again, this list was a tough one. 2012 actually ended up being an impressive year for new music, as far as I was concerned, it just didn’t all come from the corners that I was expecting.
The first new music coverage of 2012 from me (the best of the past month or two, anyway). So new stuff, and a dusting of the old, too.
