Welcome to the Future: 085: Events, gigs and new release round-up 24-May 2019

It’s Friday, therefore time for the usual amodelofcontrol.com round-up of new music coming your way this week and soon, as well as a look at the events and gigs in the future, and finally nods to any other notable news that affects artists and music that I cover here.

transmission – the amodelofcontrol.com podcast – had begun the run through of the a-z of industrial, with all episodes here. The latest episode was released a few months ago (transmission: 012). transmission: 013 will be out as soon as I have the time to rebuild the whole damned thing…

You can also get it via RSS, on iTunes, on Stitcher, and is also now available on the new Google Podcasts App (search “amodelofcontrol”).

If you want to submit anything to be included here? E-mail me (You know what to do with that to make it work, right?), comment/message on Facebook at the amodelofcontrol.com page, and over on Twitter (@amodelofcontrol).

New and Upcoming Releases this week

You had me at “Jazzy psychedelic space rock”. Glutton release their new album Eating Music today, and also out today is David Thrussell’s latest trip under the Black Lung name, in the form of The Great Manipulator.

As well as those, a My Dying Bride retrospective book and CD called A Harvest of Dread is also out today.

A host of intriguing upcoming releases have been announced this week.

Leading this has been the announcement of the new Underworld album Drift Songs, following their year-long project of new material, and there is also a massive show at Wembley Arena at the end of the year. Among the various music releases by the band on their website, by the way, there is an epic, amazing twenty-six minute take on Pearl’s Girl that I can’t recommend enough.

One of the most striking live performances I’ve seen in recent times came from Lingua Ignota, whose new album caligula is released in July. Another awesomely good live band of late (and they return to London again in August) is Russian Circles, and their new album Blood Year is out in the summer too.

The rising stars Empathy Test release their latest single Empty-Handed later in June (with a new album in September, apparently), and it’s a doozy. More on all of these next week in this month’s Tracks of the Month round-up.

An unexpected new release is a new project from Andrew Sega (Iris) and Alex Virlios (Blue Images), a post-goth/post-punk group called hallowed hearts. The first single is lost, and there is a video too. Perhaps along similar lines, there is also a new compilation coming from Metropolis called Dark Nouveau, that also appears to include some new tracks from a few bands (and some older ones from others).

Other Music News

Sad news this week was the announcement of the death of the Very Reverend D. Wayne Love (Jake Black) of Alabama 3, a prominent and important presence in the band.

Finally, a genuine, heartfelt goodbye to the London independent ticket agent Stargreen, who close after many years of operation today. I’ve been a customer of them since 1996 and will miss their friendly and knowledgeable service. Sadly, though, they are perhaps a victim of the changing market for tickets, which is becoming increasingly centralised and, for the smaller shows, now moving to app-based services like DICE.FM.

Next Week on amodelofcontrol.com

A bit of a catch-up, perhaps, but look out for Tuesday Ten: 371, rounding up the best music of the past month, an interview with Manchester label Analogue Trash, and my takes on the upcoming Syd.31 album and also the new Slighter album.
