/Welcome To The Future /290 /Events, Livestreams and New Releases 13-Jun 2025

Another roundup of the best new music recently released or announced, with another glut of new releases in the past couple of weeks in particular.

There have also been a number of notable deaths in music this week alone: first Sly Stone, the legendary funk/soul band pioneer, then Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys… and finally Douglas McCarthy of Nitzer Ebb, a cornerstone in EBM development and an ever-engaging frontman, whom I had the privilege of seeing live multiple times and meeting at least once. All three’s music will live on, of course, but the world is a lesser place without them all.

This post is a roundup of (relevant to this site) new and upcoming music, a nod to upcoming events and livestreams both from this website and others, and also a catchup of what I’ve posted recently. Thanks to everyone who sends me new music and events, keeps me up to speed, and indeed simply reads these posts.

/Releases out today or recently

/Album of the Week

13-Jun 2025 / Bootblacks / Paradise / Bandcamp
Both albums out this week make the /Album of the Week title: Bootblacks sound even sleeker and cooler than before, with saxophone and unexpectedly sun-drenched songs making for an album I just keep listening to.
13-Jun 2025 / The Young Gods / Appear Disappear / Official Band Store
It’s been six years since their last new studio album, and as the band mark forty years, they return with their best album in decades. It is direct, punchy and full of memorable songs, and balances their furious industrial-rock tendencies with their ambient explorations perfectly.

/New Albums

30-May 2025 / Aesop Rock / Black Hole Superette / Bandcamp
Aesop Rock returns with a new album that celebrates the small, mundane things (and is remarkably fascinating in its detail)
30-May 2025 / Caroline / Caroline 2 / Bandcamp
The second album from the low-key, folky-post-rock-ish ensemble.
30-May 2025 / Dead Blood Cells / Medwave / Bandcamp
The Medway-based industrial duo release a sprawling, thumping album of modern industrial.
30-May 2025 / Garbage / Let All That We Imagine Be The Light / Official Artist Store
The alt-rock veterans, back with their eighth album, and it is one with their customary snarl, but also a distinct message of positivity, in that “we can get through this”.
30-May 2025 / Kathryn Joseph / WE WERE MADE PREY / Bandcamp
Kathryn Joseph’s dark, minimal compositions have been very popular in my world in recent years, and her new album is great: a forbidding electronic pulse accompanies her songs this time around.
30-May 2025 / Swans / Birthing / Official Label Store
What is reputedly the last Swans album in the current form – although I’m sure Michael Gira has said that before – is a two-hour marathon: brutal, difficult and so very *them*.
06-Jun 2025 / Death In Vegas / Death Mask / Bandcamp
Death in Vegas release another album shrouded in darkness.
06-Jun 2025 / Holy Scum / All We Have Is Never / Bandcamp
The GNOD/Dälek offshot is very much its own thing now, and their new album is a punishing experience.
06-Jun 2025 / Katatonia / Nightmares As Extensions Of The Waking State / Bandcamp
An album somewhat overshadowed by the seemingly acrimonious departure of founding guitarist Anders Nyström in the run-up to release, I couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed by a Katatonia album for the first time in many years. It’s fine, but it is perhaps treading water somewhat.
06-Jun 2025 / Lead Into Gold / Knife The Ally / Bandcamp
Paul Barker returns to his Lead Into Gold moniker for a great album that retains his distinctive style.
06-Jun 2025 / Pulp / More / Bandcamp
Twenty-four years since their last album, it turns out we did need More after all. It’s an album about being older, but not necessarily wiser…
11-Jun 2025 / kompuls / interaltro / Bandcamp
tim kniep of synapscape strikes out alone, taking a notably different approach in rhythmic industrial sounds to the parent band.
12-Jun 2025 / Pixel Grip / Percepticide: The Death of Reality / Bandcamp
A number of really strong singles (particularly last year’s Stamina) have culminated in this new album, dropped out of nowhere yesterday. Their “Chicago Club-Pop” has a menacing edge but is so enjoyable.
13-Jun 2025 / Contagious Orgasm / Behind Closed Doors / Bandcamp
Another long-standing Japanese experimental electronic artist – CO began back in 1987! – this is their latest release on their long-time home of ant-zen.

/New Singles/EPs

13-Jun 2025 / Seeming / Grindshow / Bandcamp
seeming return with their first new single in some time, a precursor to a new album that will be their first in five years. If you’re familiar with the band’s exceptional work, the brilliance of this will come as no surprise. If you’re new? Buckle up…
13-Jun 2025 / Party Cannon / Thirst Trap / Streaming Links
“HOLY FUCK IS THIS WRONG” sneers the sample at the end of this marvellous track. Party Cannon, bored with deathgrind about, well, death, have written a slamming track about being horny instead…

/New Compilations, Live Albums, Reissues

06-Jun 2025 / 16Volt / Wisdom (Remaster) / Bandcamp
The much-loved 1993 debut by 16Volt gets a vinyl reissue and (another) remaster, and sounds absolutely great.
13-Jun 2025 / Various Artists / BLAKTRAX 3: St Eanswythe part 3: Shadows & Ghosts / Bandcamp
The third instalment of mostly-local (Folkestone/East Kent) dark electronic music from local label Blaktrax.

/Upcoming Releases

/Upcoming Albums

27-Jun 2025 / Cervello Elettronico / Theory / Bandcamp
The first album under this name from David Christian in some time, and if the track Dream is anything to go by, prepare for a brutal album of industrial power.
05-Jul 2025 / ESA / Sounds For Your Happiness / Bandcamp
Talking of industrial power, Jamie Blacker is back with his latest album. I’ve heard the whole thing, and it is remarkable – at points leaning into industrial bass, black metal and hip-hop – but retaining his scorching intensity.
29-Aug 2025 / Ganser / Animal Hospital / Bandcamp
The long-awaited follow-up to Look At That Sky sees the Chicago noise-rock band moving on from the past.
05-Sep 2025 / David Byrne / Who Is The Sky? / Bandcamp
American Utopia became something of a phenomenon, and I can’t help wondering if something similar might happen here, at least judging on the joyous lead single.
05-Sep 2025 / Rhys Fulber / Memory Impulse Autonomy / Bandcamp
Rhys Fulber continues his explorations of industrial techno, but in his own style.
19-Sep 2025 / Paradise Lost / Ascension / Official Artist Store
The Yorkshire doom metallers are back with their seventeenth album, and judging on the first single, they’ve found their place sonically again.
26-Sep 2025 / SCALER / Endlessly / Bandcamp
The Bristol-based industrial/noise-rock/experimental/whatever collective are back with a new album after the summer, and first couple of singles suggest we moving in different directions this time…

/Upcoming EPs/Singles

25-Jul 2025 / Nuovo Testamento / Trouble / Official Artist Store
It feels like we’ve been waiting for this one for a while – the neo-80s-pop sensations return with a new EP, and an irresistable lead single in Picture Perfect.

/Upcoming Compilations, Live Albums, Reissues

None this week.

/Upcoming/Livestreams/Gigs/Club Nights/Events

/amodelofcontrol.com continues to maintain an events calendar, but it has now moved to /amodelofcontrol.com/events – and is now a dynamic, searchable database, and you can add individual events to your own calendars. The listing has had a revamp and redesign (and I’m re-adding events, so it’s a bit of a work in progress).

If you have updates, relevant events for me, or want to tell me about something else, use the contact details above. It goes without saying that any gig or club still in the listing is subject to change at short notice, or may not happen at all.
