So…I’ve looked at the best gigs, live venues, and gigs at the London Astoria, bands at Infest, bands I’ve *not* seen live…but I’ve never had a look at live albums, somehow, as my girlfriend pointed out last week.
A very British habit – and one of the cliched views of the British from around the world – is, apparently, to talk about the weather incessantly. I’ve never been sure why, but I guess with a changeable climate, the seemingly never-ending threat of rain (well, at least until the last few years where dry […]
This is the eighth year that I’ve done a rundown of the music released in the past year – and every year I seem to end up with more material to cover.
As Sunday’s show began, it was plainly clear that the early bands were going to suffer from the same issue that Infest Sunday does – that everyone had a very, very heavy night the night before (myself included, although that was mainly because I was so buzzing following 242 that I couldn’t possibly sleep for […]
I think it's fair to say that I had begun to wonder if this album was ever going to appear. Endlessly delayed – 'Modern Ruin' was first revealed as the album title way back in 2009 at least – and seemingly with something of a difficult gestation, with various tracks debuted live and then not […]
Playlists: Spotify Time for the first roundup of new music to recommend for 2011 – it’s my Tracks of the month January 2011.
The weird thing about writing these Tuesday Tens is that the ideas for some take a long time to come together. Others can have a whole load of suggestions come at once, particularly if an idea for a subject pops up while I’m in the pub, or out with my girlfriend (especially in the car, […]
There has been so much good music this year – as well as a few stinkers, frankly, but let’s not dwell on those, at least for now – that for the first time ever in a year roundup I’ve stretched this one out to cover 25 songs, and I’ve still had to miss a couple […]
Rather later than originally intended – I had to push it back a week because of Whitby – here is my usual tracks of the month roundup.
The third instalment of this lengthy rundown.
So today marks the last part of my rundown of the decade’s music. Next week will be the usual rundown of the month’s best tracks, and then I’ll be starting at some point after that with a rundown of the 90s in a similar style – after all, this autumn marks twenty years since I […]
While for me the past decade hasn’t been the revelation musically that the 90s were, there was still some amazing material. And here are the top twenty songs of the decade, according to me.
The penultimate part of my 2000s tracks rundown. Next week will be the usual rundown of the month’s best tracks, and then I’ll be starting at some point after that with a rundown of the 90s in a similar style – after all, this autumn marks twenty years since I first got into/was exposed to […]
Arriving late is something of an unfortunate habit, but it doesn’t make too much different if the gig is running somewhat late anyway. But with the delays and then the waiting-an-age-at-the-bar-for-ridiculously-priced-drinks (some things never change, I see), I didn’t get any chance to catch much of Revolution by Night.
We are finally in the week preceding Infest, so it is perhaps only right for an Infest-based Tuesday Ten. Not just ten artists, though – this is something of a ramble of the good and the bad from my seven Infests so far – I haven’t mentioned all of the bands over that time, but […]
This week's TT is inspired by a number of things, but triggered mainly in the most recent-sense by Carl's question the other day, and what I have noticed as a DJ in the EBM/industrial scene. So what is the list about? Dancefloor fillers. Not just any old dancefloor fillers, but the ones that are truly […]
We arrived to hear “Thank you, goodnight…“, confirming that we had indeed missed Revolution By Night. Oddly, I heard nothing from anyone telling me how good/whatever they were.
So yes, they’re back, and unlike some of their peers it has been worth the wait. RN is another anthemic dancefloor tune, made even catchier by the use of vocoders.
No order for these, as it has been something of a top year for gigs and trying to pick the best one has been impossible…
OK, so where do we start? Well, overall, this year’s Infest has been fantastic fun. As always, it is so much more than the bands – the friendly atmosphere and time to catch up with friends ensure that. But the bands are generally well worth seeing. Didn’t catch all of them this year, and not […]
