The end is now looming ever closer, and this is the last /Tracks of the Month of 2026 – and there are just three more of them after this in 2027 before things here close for good. It’s been a long month, and I’ve put my body through a lot during it: my first tattoo […]
The latest roundup of new releases as we move headlong into autumn. This post is a roundup of (relevant to this site) new and upcoming music, a nod to upcoming events and livestreams both from this website and others, and also a catchup of what I’ve posted recently. Thanks to everyone who sends me new […]
I go to a lot of gigs. I started going to gigs in 1995, and my records (incomplete before 2003) tell me that I’ve been to over 850 gigs/festivals, and have recorded that I’ve seen approximately 2,500 sets. Bearing in mind I saw quite a bit at Uni in London, I suspect the number is […]
Life has got in the way a bit lately – again – not least our anniversary holiday, so this is again a few weeks later than planned, and is also chock-full of new release announcements of note. This post is a roundup of (relevant to this site) new and upcoming music, a nod to upcoming […]
Life has got in the way a bit lately, so this is two weeks later than planned, and is also chock-full of new release announcements of note. This post is a roundup of (relevant to this site) new and upcoming music, a nod to upcoming events and livestreams both from this website and others, and […]
The final part of /Countdown 2023 sees me looking at the best gigs of the year. Some statistics for my gig-going in 2023. I went to 38 shows (each festival is counted by number of days – so Infest is three days, so counts for three shows), and saw 125 live sets. I saw 122 […]
Onto the third week of /Countdown/2023 on amodelofcontrol.com, and this week I’m looking at the best albums of the year. As I’m sure I’ve explained before, I treat the “year” as 01-December to 30-November, to allow me a cut-off point, and to allow this to be done and dusted before Christmas so that I can […]
Continuing the amodelofcontrol.com review of 2023 – and the twentieth year that I’ve done this – which this week turns attention to the best tracks of the year. Next week will be the wrap of the best albums of 2023.
Another busy week for releases – and new announcements this week. I’ve also added another swathe of events to the listing, too. Links below. This post is a roundup of (relevant to this site) new and upcoming music, a nod to upcoming events and livestreams both from this website and others, and also a catchup […]
We’ve hurtled into an already chaotic 2023, and the second Tuesday in, it’s time for the first /Tracks of the Month of the new year.
The latest fortnightly update. This post is a roundup of (relevant to this site) new and upcoming music, a nod to upcoming events and livestreams both from this website and others, and also a catchup of what I’ve posted recently. Thanks to everyone who sends me new music and events, keeps me up to speed, […]
This week’s /Tuesday Ten comes with a content warning for discussion of depression and suicide.
Back on my current series this week, as I move onto three-letter song titles. This was where things got easier.
Very occasionally at this time of year – and I’ve done this less than I thought I had – I turn to a subject that might have something to do with Valentine’s Day. This year is another of those, mainly as I’m still digging through the variety of as-yet-unused suggestion threads, and there was an […]
I gave up smoking in around 2001 – having been a smoker through my teens and through University, only giving up when my girlfriend at the time insisted I did so. I went through periods of being a heavy smoker, particularly at stressful points during my Uni years, but somehow managed to give up without […]
Continuing the process of wrapping up the last decade before it disappears too far into the rearview mirror, this is the seventh part of the best tracks of the 2010s. This has been an interesting, and memory-laden trip doing this list. I’ve dredged up a few memories, reconnected with a few songs I’d not heard […]
In what I think is a first – or at least the first time in a long time – I was messaged about a suggestion for a /Tuesday Ten recently (by someone who isn’t my partner), and this is out this week’s post came about. So thanks to Kai for suggesting an appropriate /Tuesday Ten […]
Some statistics for my gig-going in 2019. I went to 53 shows (each festival is counted by number of days – so Infest is three days, so counts for three shows), and saw 150 live sets. I saw 140 unique bands, eight of them more than once, at 37 venues, and my wife saw 46 […]
Thirty years ago last week – last Thursday, in fact, one of the most important alternative rock albums ever was released. Doolittle by Pixies remains a high-watermark, arguably kickstarted the takeover of the airwaves by alternative rock in the early nineties, and of course, paved the way for countless other bands – Nirvana of course […]
As we finally sweep out of a long winter, with the days getting longer at last, and the shoots of new growth visible, a cautious optimism returns. Part of that is down to the anticipation of things to come – there’s lots of fun stuff happening this summer and into the autumn, a few changes […]
