DJ: Guest: 027: Autonomy – 02-August 2008
This was my first night DJing Autonomy, that started a run of a few years of me being “resident guest” at the night.

This week, it's time to turn inward a little – and look at songs written about the music industry. Needless to say, this kind of song is almost always written in a negative light (I can't think of any positive examples – if you can, I'd love to hear from you), and here are ten […]
Fresh off a North American tour supporting 16Volt and Bella Morte, having just seen the latest Cyanotic-driven compilation [Gears Gone Wild] just released, and with a new Cyanotic album [The Medication Generation] due early next year, Sean Payne is a busy man. amodelofcontrol.com managed to interrupt his busy life for a short while to catch […]
It has been commented in the past that the majority of my music writing errs on the positive side – which is mainly true. I don't like putting loads of negative reviews online – mainly because I'd rather emphasise the good, and partly because, it appears, some artists don't like hearing bad reviews. Playlists: Spotify […]
The release of new Combichrist material is both a blessing and a curse for an Industrial DJ. The blessing, of course, is that it means that you generally have at least one more sure-fire dancefloor filler, the curse being that it’s only going to get more likely to see yet more Combichrist requests (seriously, folks […]
The release of this EP has long been on the cards, but due to issues at the label that were due to release it (Sistinas) that appeared to have sunk any chances of the CD actually being released, the perhaps surprising decision was taken to release it for free (but only for a limited period).
DJing at Devastator was great fun – a reasonable turnout and a fair number of enthusiastic punters made for DJ sets that weren’t as challenging as I had first thought they might be. Although it was interesting to note the differences to the Sheffield crowd, with a marked slant towards Death Metal and Thrash more […]
I first heard of Arnocorps a while back…I thought that this was a joke band that could never be funny. It turns out that I’ve been missing the fun. I had no real interest in the support bands, however – punk is not my scene whatsoever and so The Hyenas and The Dagobah 4 were […]
I listened to a radio show from last week that resulted in the inspiration for this week’s Tuesday Ten. And what was that show? It was Jarvis Cocker’s musical map of Sheffield, which was a fascinating guide through the Sheffield that Jarvis grew up in, and the music he was influenced by along the way […]
So, onto this week's Tuesday Ten: and with a new month already, it's time for my usual monthly rundown of ten tracks I really quite like right now.
Taking the long-lived idea of the split EP one step further, Savage Lands crowbars the work of four artists from different areas of the industrial noise landscape onto one long CD – seventy-nine minutes and six seconds worth, in fact.
Tony Young doesn’t waste any time. This new album is his third full-length album in less than three years, in addition to the appearance of a remix album earlier this year. The good thing is that it isn’t simply “more of the same”, but a distinct evolution and indeed in some cases is a move […]
Genotype last night was good fun.
I think the saying goes “good things come to those who wait”. And in the three-and-a-half years since I first came across this band, their first EP is available at last. And happily, the power and astonishing control that they display over their music in the live environment is carried over well when recorded.
Following the fuss over the recent Radiohead "Best of", and then rather lesser-known band LUXT wanting to effectively revise history by re-recording their older material with their new singer to create a career overview, it's time to appraise the idea of the "Best of" compilation.
Loosely inspired by other silly posts comparing Euro 2008 to other things (the European Championships of Beer being the best I've seen so far), I'm turning my attention this week to the more international corners of my music collection – and in particular, bands that sing in other languages than English, and indeed perhaps their […]
Where the hell is this year going? We seem to be flying through it. So anyway, here's my monthly rundown of ten tracks that I really like/am listening to lots at the moment.
As a result of an early deviation for food first, I missed both Action Directe and Uberbyte – of which both sets I’ve heard many good things about. My excuse for missing them? I hadn’t eaten all day, really, and I seriously needed that meal!
I’ve done a good job in recent years in catching up with a number of bands that I missed in my younger years, that became huge influences on the music that I listen to and the music that I play when DJing. And happily enough, all of them have lived up to their reputation – […]
We last came across JP Anderson in these pages covering his last album REFrame, in which he made the jump from an unsigned, underground artist to a signed artist with an apparently ever-growing fanbase.
