As is traditional, January felt like it took all year, February felt like a couple of days.
As is traditional, January felt like it took all year, February felt like a couple of days.
Two months in, and there’s already a lot of new music to enjoy and look forward to in 2025. This post is a roundup of (relevant to this site) new and upcoming music, a nod to upcoming events and livestreams both from this website and others, and also a catchup of what I’ve posted recently. […]
Onto the third week of /Countdown/2021 on amodelofcontrol.com, and this week I’m looking at the best albums of the year. As I’m sure I’ve explained before, I treat the “year” as 01-December to 30-November, to allow me a cut-off point, and to allow this to be done and dusted before Christmas so that I can […]
After the light last week, there must be darkness, I guess. So despite the spring weather, I’m heading into the dark.
Another busy week of releases and announcements, as I try to keep up… The post, then, is a roundup of (relevant to this site) new and upcoming music, a nod to upcoming events and livestreams both from this website and others, and also a catchup of what I’ve posted recently. Thanks to everyone who sends […]
Into 2022 and the cold, grey January, and on the first Friday of 2022, it is time for my traditional round-up of what we know about (relevant) new music coming your way in 2022. What do I mean by relevant? Broadly, that means music I might cover here, which to be honest, these days, covers […]
A new year, and a new look for my posts on /amodelofcontrol.com, for the most part, a case of tidying up things and getting a cleaner style.
It feels weird posting this, but I need to keep going. There are loads of new releases, and still there is new music coming through, and buying music right now is the only way we can help. The events listing is still being updated, but obviously, an awful lot is being postponed, cancelled or changed […]
The new year has started well for new music. In fact very well, as all kinds of new music has been flying at me from all directions, or so it feels. Which is why this week has more than ten songs – I finally stopped at sixteen – and I suspect that future /Tracks of […]
A welcome to the many new readers of this page. This is the weekly Friday post, of new music coming your way this week and soon, as well as a look at the events and gigs in the future, and finally nods to any other notable news that affects artists and music that I cover […]
I’ve been fortunate here at amodelofcontrol.com this year to have been able to talk music and beyond with a great variety of bands and artists, all of whom are loosely involved with “our scene” in one way or another, and this includes bands both veteran and rather newer.
The longer that I’ve written about music – it has now ticked past twenty-one years, some way more than half my life – the more difficult it seems to be able to comprehend how long listening to some bands has been part of my life.
Thanks to doing some planning in advance for my DJ sets at the GVWI Hallowe’en Party on Saturday, the inspiration hit me quite quickly to consider a Ten based upon the spooky goings-on around Hallowe’en. Some are directly relevant, some are on themes appropriate for the subject. Either way, consider it a relation to previous […]
It is the 21st anniversary of the Whitby Goth Weekend this coming weekend, so let’s go Goth for this post. The argument will rage until the end of time as to what counts as Goth music nowadays, by the way, and I’m sure it could well flare up again as a result of this post! […]
Colour. It is perhaps not an obvious subject for this series – being mainly a visual concept – but even descriptions or themes of colour can be exceptionally evocative, as a number of the entries are here.
My usual roundup of tracks new and old that I really like right now.
A slightly different Tuesday Ten this week – and it will be the last 2007 retrospective. So what is this one? Well, it needs some explanation.
Like many other gigs of late, I was left feeling rather old again after this one. Again the attendance was heartening – it was a queue pretty much ’round the block before it opened – with many, many very dedicated fans of the headliners.
Another month – so it's time again for my tracks of the month.
Something around 40 minutes behind time, the Screaming Banshee Aircrew appear and waste no time in getting on with it. Maybe it was just me, but it seemed that something wasn’t quite right last night. I’ve seen SBA a lot over the past year or two, and they have been much better than this. Off-nights […]
