DJ: Guest: 049: Autonomy – 04-December 2010

Saturday saw us in Leicester for Autonomy, which was good fun (and a hard-dance-free zone, too)
A night that seemed to pass by in a flash. Autonomy was good fun, nice and busy despite the awful weather, and DirtyK played an impressive forty-minute set that had the biggest crowd I’ve yet seen for a gig in the venue. I had intended on playing a noise-heavy set, and went broadly that way […]
Saturday saw me back in Leicester again for Autonomy, which despite being the weekend after Infest and Reading/Leeds, was surprisingly busy and a whole lot of fun. Next month sees Dirty K playing live and Autonomy will be billed as a “noise special” (i.e. less hard dance and more industrial/noise). Anyway, back to this month:
Saturday saw us back in Leicester, for my return to Autonomy after a couple of months off. It was a much busier than expected night, too, and while I felt a little rusty on the DJing front, I hit my stride in the end. Oh, and Concrete Lung’s Recovery Position sounds fucking awesome really, really […]
A good night overall, a few technical niggles notwithstanding. Either way, great to see everyone, and also to catch up with the guys from Inertia for the first time in what feels like a long time! There are various photos from the night online as always, click on the photo to the left. It was […]
Autonomy was reasonably well-attended, as well as the usual suspects. Not the best DJing I’ve ever done – frankly at points it just didn’t work out – but I got it sorted in the end, though, and the reaction to some new stuff played was immensely surprising (in a good way!).
Saturday saw us head to Leicester for the first time in a while, for my return to DJing at Autonomy after a few months away. It was a very long night, but a great one. It was heaving, Skinjob put on a good show, and I think my DJing went ok, even if I had […]
The first DJing I’d done in a couple of months. It was nice to be back behind the ‘decks, and while I played it relatively safe with a broadly “old-school” industrial/etc set, it surprisingly seemed to go down very well indeed (and hearing various drunken squeals during Beers, Steers and Queers brought a huge smile […]
Autonomy was the first time that I had ever used my laptop (and Virtual DJ) to DJ with, rather than my CDs. With intelektchrist elsewhere, and our less-experienced cohort DJ Annie [Candy Acid] initially unavailable also (she agreed to assist for part of the night in the end), I was left with the prospect of […]
The night was a frustrating one to say the least. A difficult crowd, and a couple of DJ sets where I simply felt I was awful, and just about nothing worked. Oh well, these things happen.
What an odd night last night turned out to be. Autonomy was, so it felt, busier than it has been in a while (I suspect Leicester Pride yesterday had something to do with it), and the crowd were certainly up for dancing. As for my DJ sets, the setlists are below, and for once I […]
The first half of a barking weekend that saw me at Sonisphere the following day…
Almost five years to the day since I began tcf in Sheffield, I brought the curtain down on the night alongside two DJs that had been along for the ride for much of that time. There were two reasons for ending it – one, I was preparing to move to London (which in the event […]
Last night’s Autonomy/Redeemer was exhausting, immense fun. In a change to the usual I was DJing alongside Berrega, and I reckon we did pretty well – a good and enthusiastic crowd were in and they responded best to some really surprising stuff.
Black Sheep last night was immense fun, with a good number of people there, lots of craziness and drinking, and some damned good tunes too. In fact, after a period where I’ve not been hugely happy with my DJing, last night it just clicked and it felt right somehow – particularly my last set which […]
The night as a whole took us by surprise last night in being considerably busier than expected. A tough crowd, too, who were difficult to please, even with the “obvious” stuff.
Last night was immense fun, my set at Autonomy appears to have gone down very well (even though I’m not totally happy with what I played, I pretty much kept a good dancefloor for much of it), and roll on next time.
A third set at Corporation, where I was joining L8N to DJ in the SyN room for the night. Turnout wasn’t great – although being the weekend after Infest and Reading/Leeds, it never really was going to be – but it was good fun to DJ to who was there – and the reaction I […]
My first DJ appearance at Infest, on the main dancefloor. The second set was straight after Front 242. Full review here.
This was my first night DJing Autonomy, that started a run of a few years of me being “resident guest” at the night.
