/Welcome to the Future /257 /Events, Livestreams and New Releases 22-Sep 2023

This week’s post comes from Chicago, as I prepare for the first night of Cold Waves XI tonight. In the meantime there’s a whole lot to cover this week.

This post is a roundup of (relevant to this site) new and upcoming music, a nod to upcoming events and livestreams both from this website and others, and also a catchup of what I’ve posted recently. Thanks to everyone who sends me new music and events, keeps me up to speed, and indeed simply reads these posts.

You can also get it via RSS, on iTunes, on Stitcher, and is also now available on the Google Podcasts App (search “amodelofcontrol”) and Spotify too.

If you want to submit anything to be included here? E-mail me (You know what to do with that to make it work, right?), comment/message on Facebook at the amodelofcontrol.com page, and over on Twitter (@amodelofcontrol).

/Contents

/Releases out today or recently

/Album of the Week

22-Sep 2023 / Choke Chain / Mortality / Bandcamp
Mark Trueman’s combination of EBM and punk has never sounded better than on his rampaging new album.

/New Albums

08-Sep 2023 / Sonum Unum / Signals From The Sun / Bandcamp
Quite strange, mellowed-out electronic music with surprisingly poppy hooks.
14-Sep 2023 / SIERRA / A Story of Anger / Official Artist Store
French EBM/techno crossover that works surprisingly well.
15-Sep 2023 / Black Rose Burning / Ad Astra / Bandcamp
Punchy darkwave that impressed on first listen.
15-Sep 2023 / Explosions In The Sky / End / Bandcamp
Explosions in the Sky have long been a fantastic post-rock group, and here they explore the end of things (everything) in their usual, deeply emotional music.
15-Sep 2023 / Georgia Train / Puncture / Bandcamp
Alongside the Bitter Ruin retrospective recently, Georgia Train also has a new album of her own out.
22-Sep 2023 / 3TEETH / EndEx / Century Media Store
3TEETH roar back with their latest album, with some new advances on their sound and some callbacks to their origins too.
22-Sep 2023 / Cannibal Corpse / Chaos Horrific / Bandcamp
It’s a new Cannibal Corpse album. What else do you need to know? It’s very good.
22-Sep 2023 / KEN Mode / VOID / Bandcamp
More scorched-earth noise rock from this very angry band.
22-Sep 2023 / System Syn / Kill The Light / Bandcamp
Clint Carney’s project continues to impress, with another album of melodic, catchy industrial.
22-Sep 2023 / Unwoman / Desire Paths / Bandcamp
Erica Mulkey continues her fascinating explorations, and she remains a singular talent.

/New Singles/EPs

23-Aug 2023 / The Operative / Stitches / Bandcamp
Shane Talada continues the resumption of this ever-great project with a cracking new EP.
06-Sep 2023 / Marika Hackman / No Caffeine / YouTube
Marika Hackman finally resurfaces, with a characteristically frank song about dealing with panic attacks.
14-Sep 2023 / mclusky / unpopular parts of a pig / the digger you deep / Bandcamp
The seething sneer of mclusky unexpectedly returns in the form of new material – and it’s every bit as good as before.
15-Sep 2023 / Antigen Shift / Where Is Your Rage / Bandcamp
A searing new track from Antigen Shift (the latest in their recent series of single releases), that comes complete with an impressive Leæther Strip remix.
20-Sep 2023 / Chelsea Wolfe / Dusk / Bandcamp
Chelsea Wolfe returns with the first new track in some time, and the doomy, guitar laden power of before has been swept away for gloomy, claustrophobic trip-hop – and it’s quite, quite great.
21-Sep 2023 / Pixel Grip / Bet You Do / Bandcamp
Hopefully the first taste of a new album, Chicago electro-heads Pixel Grip head for a surprisingly minimalist, punchy dancefloor track with Bet You Do.

/New Compilations, Live Albums, Reissues

22-Sep 2023 / The Breeders / Last Splash (30th Anniversary Edition) / Bandcamp
The Breeders’ classic second album gets another remaster/reissue as it turns 30.
22-Sep 2023 / Various Artists / “Blast No.1”– Blastbeat Tribute To Type O Negative / Bandcamp
The kind of release that has no business working this well: a grindcore tribute to Type O Negative.

LA-meets-Berlin darkwave/post-punk.

13-Oct 2023 / Octavian Winters / The Line or Curve / Bandcamp
Lush, gloomy music that reminds of both The Cure and Lycia, and that’s never a bad thing in my book.

None this week.

/Upcoming/Livestreams/Gigs/Club Nights/Events

Obviously, things change at short notice right now, and I’m updating events as they are postponed or cancelled, and also including relevant Livestreams as they are announced.

/amodelofcontrol.com continues to maintain an events calendar, but it has now moved to /amodelofcontrol.com/events – and is now a dynamic, searchable database, and you can add individual events to your own calendars. I’m currently fixing a couple of minor backend issues, so new events may not be added promptly, or be added sporadically.

If you have updates, relevant events for me, or want to tell me about something else, use the contact details above. It goes without saying that any gig or club still in the listing is subject to change at short notice, or may not happen at all.
