/Welcome to the Future/215/Events, Livestreams and new releases 10-Jun 2022

Much like two weeks ago, this post comes with discussion of death. This time, though, it was closer to home, as a drinking-and-gig buddy from London sadly passed away this week. DL, we’re gonna miss you, dude.

Anyway. This post is a roundup of (relevant to this site) new and upcoming music, a nod to upcoming events and livestreams both from this website and others, and also a catchup of what I’ve posted recently. Thanks to everyone who sends me new music and events, keeps me up to speed, and indeed simply reads these posts.

You can also get it via RSS, on iTunes, on Stitcher, and is also now available on the Google Podcasts App (search “amodelofcontrol”) and Spotify too.

If you want to submit anything to be included here? E-mail me (You know what to do with that to make it work, right?), comment/message on Facebook at the amodelofcontrol.com page, and over on Twitter (@amodelofcontrol).

/Album of the Week
10-Jun 2022 / downset. / MAINTAIN /Nuclear Blast Store
The LA Rap Metal godfathers return with their first album in eight years, and yeah, they might be a bit older, but Rey Oropeza still delivers like the wise head who wants his listeners to avoid the pitfalls and life he has clearly experienced. Downset are back firing on every cylinder, and it’s fucking great to have them back.

25-May 2022 / Syndika Zero / Every Day Is A New Disaster /Bandcamp
US industrial act Syndika Zero return out of nowhere after over a decade, and their harsh industrial sounds are undimmed.
27-May 2022 / Just Mustard / Heart Under /Bandcamp
Thanks to a friend for bringing this one to my attention, brilliant industrial-tinged shoegazy noise-rock from Ireland.
03-Jun 2022 / Encephalon / Echoes /Bandcamp
The fourth album from Encephalon feels like it has stripped away much of the more experimental and conceptual elements, and I need a few more listens to it yet.
03-Jun 2022 / Reptilicus / Crusher of Bones /Bandcamp
A remaster and reissue of the 1990 (!) debut from Reptilicus, which is as brutal and intense as the title suggests.
04-Jun 2022 / In Isolation / Albums | Singles | Soundtracks – an Anthology 2007-2022 /Bandcamp
British darkwave/goth band In Isolation mark fifteen years with an excellent, sprawling compilation.
05-Jun 2022 / Suicide Queen / Nymphomaniac /Bandcamp
A long-promised album, this, intriguing, bombastic industrial metal from the West Coast.
06-Jun 2022 / SØLVE / Earth Inferno /Bandcamp
Brant Showers returns with his second album under the SØLVE name, and it builds on what he’s done before with great results.
10-Jun 2022 / Robohop / Robohop II: The Future of Sound Enforcement /Bandcamp
Glitch Mode’s hip-hop project finally resumes.
10-Jun 2022 / Marc Canham & Duotone / Black Mass EP /Bandcamp
Genuinely fascinating experimental electronics.
10-Jun 2022 / Silver Walks / Various Positions /Bandcamp
The debut album from Silver Walks sees them bring in guests and a host of new ideas, with fantastic results.
10-Jun 2022 / The Utopia Strong / International Treasure /Bandcamp
Steve Davis, Kavus Torabi and Mike York continue their far-out journey into the psych unknown…

10-Jun 2022 / Pop Will Eat Itself / The Poppies Strike Back /Official Band Store
An unexpected release this morning – available from their website – is the first new Poppies single in seven years, and the electronic groove, self-aggrandising and samples feels like something of a welcome return to the old school.
10-Jun 2022 / klangstabil / you may start · kill all lifeforms /Bandcamp
Two of klangstabil’s greatest songs make it onto a 7″ release.

/Upcoming releases announced this past week

17-Jun 2022 / Gozer / An Endless Static /Bandcamp
Deep, intense post-metal from this Sheffield trio.
21-Jun 2022 / Flint Glass / Azathoth /Bandcamp
Twenty years of Flint Glass, marked by a return to the cthulhu mythos…
24-Jun 2022 / Final Light / Final Light /Bandcamp
Apparently a one-off album initiated by Roadburn Festival, Perturbator and Johannes Persson (Cult of Luna) have collaborated, and the result feels like an unexpected, natural fit.
08-Jul 2022 / Party Dozen / The Real Work /Bandcamp
These experimental Aussies impressed with their recent single, fascinated to hear the album.
29-Jul 2022 / Barry Adamson / Oedipus Schmoedipus /Lexer Music Store
Barry Adamson’s greatest album gets a new vinyl reissue.
05-Aug 2022 / Amon Amarth / The Great Heathen Army /Official Artist Store
The Viking metallers are back!
16-Sep 2022 / The Black Angels / Wilderness of Mirrors /Bandcamp
The Austin psych-titans return with their first new material in five years.
23-Sep 2022 / Neu! / Neu! (50th Anniversary) /Groenland Store
The incalculably important debut from Neu! gets a well-deserved, lavish 50th-anniversary release.
30-Sep 2022 / Yeah Yeah Yeahs / Cool It Down /Bandcamp
It’s been a long time, but one of the coolest indie bands of all is back…
07-Oct 2022 / A.A. Williams / As The Moon Rests /Bandcamp
Gorgeous, doomy alt-rock that just gets better and better with every listen, and the new single is fantastic.

/Upcoming/Livestreams/Gigs/Club Nights/Events

Obviously, things change at short notice right now, and I’m updating events as they are postponed or cancelled, and also including relevant Livestreams as they are announced.

/amodelofcontrol.com continues to maintain an events calendar, but it has now moved to /amodelofcontrol.com/events – and is now a dynamic, searchable database, and you can add individual events to your own calendars. I’m currently fixing a couple of minor backend issues, so new events may not be added promptly, or be added sporadically.

If you have updates, relevant events for me, or want to tell me about something else, use the contact details above. It goes without saying that any gig or club still in the listing is subject to change at short notice, or may not happen at all.
