Bloody hell, there’s a lot going on at the moment: an avalanche of new releases, and new release announcements, recently. This post is a roundup of (relevant to this site) new and upcoming music, a nod to upcoming events and livestreams both from this website and others, and also a catchup of what I’ve posted […]
This is another of those /Tuesday Tens where the original inspiration for asking about this subject is likely lost to time. But, just to make sure we know what we’re talking about: “A living thing may be an object, and is distinguished from non-living things by the designation of the latter as inanimate objects. Inanimate […]
Back at Bruise Violet for another fun night.
Sometimes, I ask for submissions on a subject that I think will have loads of easy-to-use suggestions, and the reality is rather different: and so, it gets shelved for a while until the right time to use it comes up. This subject was one of those.
This is one of the rare times where I’m returning to a subject. I first wrote about food (and drink) on /Tuesday Ten /124, way back in March 2011, but the more I thought about it, the more I realised that most of the songs that I’d used at the time were barely about food, […]
It is the first Bandcamp Friday of the autumn, and don’t I know about it, judging on the groaning inbox this morning, and the large number of releases and release announcements recently. Also, the events page has had a significant revamp (links below). This post is a roundup of (relevant to this site) new and […]
Another of my now occasional livestreams, and I was joined for the first time in a little while by Daisy.
September has arrived down here on the coast with a lot of rain, and intermittent sunshine: and with my hop plants due to harvest in the coming week or two, it definitely feels like autumn is here. Autumn also means the usual deluge of new releases, so this week’s /Tracks of the Month has expanded […]
The recent edition of Infest being a week earlier than usual – and now that the festival appears to have moved to Manchester permanently – has had me in a reflective mood, especially as that was my 25th Infest (including the two online editions), having first attended in 2000, and of course there wasn’t one […]
Back from Infest and to normal life again, and I feel like I could do with sleeping for a week.
This year was the 25th in-person Infest – and also my 25th Infest (including the two online events, which I was involved in by DJing at one, and providing interviews for both) – and it was one of significant change.
Back from what felt like a blink-and-you-miss-it Infest, and coverage of that will follow later this week. In the meantime, I prepared this mostly in the week before Infest to ensure it would be posted today.
/Tuesday Ten /600 arrives 6,714 days (or 18 years, 4 months and 17 days) since I posted /Tuesday Ten /001. In that time, I’ve lived in Sheffield, North London and now South East Kent, and I’ve attended 688 days of gigs and/or festivals and seen 1,961 live sets.
A quieter release period this time around, although a good number of autumn releases are currently being announced. Next week I’ll be at the relocated Infest in Manchester, for my 25th visit to the festival (including two online versions) – expect coverage on /amodelofcontrol after the event. In the meantime, my /Tuesday Ten series reaches […]
This Thursday (07-August) marks five years since the seed of moving to the Kent coast was planted. It was during a brief respite of the early lockdowns in summer 2020, when we could at least travel somewhere for a day, so for my birthday we got the train down to Folkestone, and got the bus […]
This month, I’m covering the best tracks of the month a week earlier than usual – mainly because I already had plans for /Tuesday Ten /599 and /600 that fit neatly in the next couple of weeks. That said, I already had enough tracks by this time last week, never mind this week, so there […]
A break in what has been a hot summer this week, with lots of rain and a general sense, for a short while, of nothing much going on. This post is a roundup of (relevant to this site) new and upcoming music, a nod to upcoming events and livestreams both from this website and others, […]
Thirty years since I started going to gigs this week, and the death of Ozzy.
Thirty years ago yesterday, I attended my first gig: Back to the Planet, Pop Will Eat Itself and Siouxsie and the Banshees at the Heineken Festival in Roundhay Park, Leeds, and I was back again on the Saturday for the “Britpop” day headlined by Pulp. It was a giant, four-day free festival that had a […]
