Another Friday, another round-up. As always this is a look at upcoming releases, relevant music news and upcoming events and gigs worth spending some of your time at. It is by no means an exhaustive list, and I’m always on the lookout for more to include.

New and Upcoming Releases this week
There’s once again a few releases worth paying attention to this week.
Amelia Arsenic – once of Angelspit, now a solo artist – has released a new EP on Glitch Mode, called Queen of Risk. Also out now is Atomic Eyes by The Rain Within.
In addition, Fischerspooner release their first album in some years, SIR, while Wild Beasts, who play their last ever gigs in London this weekend, have released a live album last night all my dreams came true.
I should have mentioned this last week, but the brutal Gnaw Their Tongues released Genocidal Majesty last week, and the excellent Deutsche Elektronische Musik series reaches the third edition, and I’ve got the first two, so I’ll be picking this up soon. The series is highly recommended if you like your German experimental music (or, Krautrock if you must) from the seventies.
Lastly, I’d missed this previously, but Paradise Lost are re-releasing and remastering their most divisive album next month (Host). I’ve long since rather loved this album – it certainly doesn’t deserve the reputation it has – although on first listen I was struggling to find what they’ve brushed up on opener So Much Is Lost.

Other Things
This week Infest added Peter Hook & The Light as the Thursday night headliners, and Canadian band ACTORS were also announced.
After seemingly months of rumour and suggestion, The Smashing Pumpkins are back, then. As in the “proper” line-up, but wait, no D’Arcy, and depending on where you read it, both sides could be, or are, to blame. What’s more, they are promising only old material (written by that line-up, broadly), and while there aren’t dates outside the USA yet, I can’t imagine there won’t be in the future.
Talking of reunions, it’s a long way ahead, but Marion return (again) in November at O2 Academy Islington, supported by Desperate Journalist.
Sad news last weekend was the announcement of the death of composer Jóhann Jóhannsson, best-known for his exceptional film score work.
Perhaps more surprising news is the announcement of Metallica winning the prestigious Polar Prize for popular music.
