Another Bandcamp Friday! This post is a roundup of (relevant to this site) new and upcoming music, a nod to upcoming events and livestreams both from this website and others, and also a catchup of what I’ve posted recently. Thanks to everyone who sends me new music and events, keeps me up to speed, and […]
For those bemoaning that “there’s no good new music”, you’re wrong. There’s been an absolute torrent of new music lately, so much that I can barely keep up, and as we close off the first third of the year, there’s already been a few album of the year contenders too.
A seriously busy month – moving house does that to you – has meant I’ve got four weeks of releases and new release announcements to catch up on. This post is a roundup of (relevant to this site) new and upcoming music, a nod to upcoming events and livestreams both from this website and others, […]
Back to writing about the best gigs of the year for the first time in three years. Some statistics for my gig-going in 2022. I went to 36 shows (each festival is counted by number of days – so Infest is three days, so counts for three shows), and saw 106 live sets. I saw […]
That what started out as a hastily-scheduled event to celebrate the life of Jamie Duffy has turned into a large, multi-day, multi-city festival over the past decade is something of wonder: but what is also great is how it has fostered a wider family of sorts, one of multiple groups that come together from all […]
Just one week to Infest, and while we wait, here’s this week’s new release roundup. This post is a roundup of (relevant to this site) new and upcoming music, a nod to upcoming events and livestreams both from this website and others and also a catchup of what I’ve posted recently. Thanks to everyone who […]
Another strong set of releases to cover this week. The post, then, is a roundup of (relevant to this site) new and upcoming music, a nod to upcoming events and livestreams both from this website and others and also a catchup of what I’ve posted recently. Thanks to everyone who sends me new music and […]
Onto the third and final week of /Countdown/2021 on amodelofcontrol.com, and this week I’m looking at the best albums of the year. As I’m sure I’ve explained before, I treat the “year” as 01-December to 30-November, to allow me a cut-off point, and to allow this to be done and dusted before Christmas so that […]

Into October already? Christ this year is flashing past quickly. I’m now beginning to consider the best music of the year, with more yet to be released before the end of November. In the meantime, here’s the usual wrap of new music and suchlike this week.
As I’ve noted previously my livestreams, like others, are beginning to wind down. In addition, I’ve overhauled the events page in a big way, so see the link further down for that. There are still some things going on, as well as the usual slew of releases, so I continue to wrap up both, as […]
Bandcamp Friday has rolled around again, so there’s yet again a ton of music to cover. In addition, I’ve overhauled the events page in a big way, so see the link further down for that. Livestreams and waiting for new releases seem to be the order of the day, for now, still, so I continue […]
Bandcamp Friday last week was so busy that I’ve got yet more releases from it to mention this week, and it’s busy enough anyway this week. In addition, I’ve overhauled the events page in a big way, so see the link further down for that. Livestreams and waiting for new releases seem to be the […]

Back into a lockdown this week – whatever the Government try and spin, it’s a lockdown again, and it is what it is. There still appears no chance of live music or clubbing to any normal degree this year either (notwithstanding some of the enterprising experiments in new ways of dealing with that at the […]
We keep going amid the lockdown. There are new releases, and still, new music coming through, and buying music right now is the only way we can help. The events listing is still being updated, but obviously, an awful lot is being postponed, cancelled or changed right now.
The other Saturday, I ended up heavily involved in Stay-In-Fest. As well as DJing an early afternoon set that seemed to go down well (setlist: /DJ/Guest/098), four online/video interviews that I’d conducted with different artists over a previous couple of weeks were broadcast.
Continuing the process of wrapping up the last decade before it disappears too far into the rearview mirror, this is the third part of the best albums of the 2010s.
A word of warning: in the future, if you see that I’m attending a show in June next year, just know that for the past three or four years now, I’ve been unlucky enough to be gig-bound on the hottest day of that month. Gigging indoors in the heat is never fun, of course – […]
