Another week, and in particular one week closer to Whitby (which we head up to next Thursday). I’m undecided if there will be a post next Friday or not, it all depends on how good my data service is (or whether our cottage has WiFi) – connections remain rather sketchy in the North Yorkshire town. But either way, I am seriously looking forward to a break for a few days.

One thing I want to mention here – Transmission is coming in November, where amodelofcontrol.com gains a voice. More details soon.
In the meantime, this is the usual Friday wrap-up of new music, music news and upcoming events.
A reminder that my DJing alter-ego DJ:traumahound returns to the decks tomorrow at the GVWI Hallowe’en Party, alongside some familiar names.

New Releases this week
Once again there is quite a bit released this week.
After teasing earlier in the week, Fever Ray released new single To The Moon and Back this morning. It is…very much her.
One of the more interesting post-rock bands of recent times, And So I Watch You From Afar – who are also a phenomenal live band – return with their latest album The Endless Shimmering, while Phil Barry & Keef Baker have a new collaboration in the form of Word Made Flesh. The album is out soon, but you can check out a taste of the intriguing soundscapes that they’ve created in the form of The Forest.
Sean Payne of Cyanotic is involved in another side-project, this time CONFORMCO, who have a new EP Eighty Sixed out now. Not only does it feature the great WaxTrax! throwback of the title track, but there is also a storming cover of Attack Ships on Fire, too.
Elsewhere, Out Out are back with the furious Red Lily EP, and the fascinating Canadian band Odonis Odonis return with No Pop
No Jonny, of course, but one of the most extreme metal bands ever to come out of Britain are back. Oh yes – Iron Monkey’s 9-13 is out today too.
Upcoming Releases
We’re now mainly onto releases in 2018, with the exception of a few late notice announcements, and of course the usual pre-Christmas re-issues and best-ofs…
16Volt release a new Dead on Arrivals EP next week.
Then for the new year, there is The Soft Moon’s Criminals (Feb), new signing to Artoffact ACTORS release their debut album in the new year, and A Perfect Circle have returned at long last, with single The Doomed and a new album in 2018.
Then there is a Frank Turner “best-of” Songbook at the end of November (including a number of new takes on old songs), and there is a slew of A Certain Ratio re-issues in November too.

Other things
The much-loved-by-this-site Metroland play, at long last, in London next April (their first UK show).
Elsewhere, Canadian rock icon Gord Downie lost his battle against brain cancer this week, and some interesting reading: A Guardian investigation into “the musical underground”, which I’ll bet avoids “our thing” entirely, while the lifting of sanctions on Sudan is resulting in rapid changes for the youth of the country.
