Welcome to the Future: 035: Events, gigs and new release round-up 30-March 2018

Another Friday, another round-up. As always this is a look at upcoming releases, relevant music news and upcoming events and gigs worth spending some of your time at. It is by no means an exhaustive list, and I’m always on the lookout for more to include.

transmission – the amodelofcontrol.com podcast – has resumed the run through of the a-z of industrial, with transmission: 003, transmission: 004, transmission: 005 and transmission: 006 joining 001 and 002 online recently, and we’ll be continuing with f on transmission: 007 very soon. You can also get it via RSS, on iTunes, on Stitcher.

If you want to submit anything to be included here? E-mail me (You know what to do with that to make it work, right?), comment/message on Facebook at the amodelofcontrol.com page, and over on Twitter (@amodelofcontrol).

New and Upcoming Releases this week

Once again, quite a bit is out today that’s of interest.

Ruinizer return with The Faceless Aberration, Primordial are back with Exile Amongst The Ruins, and Desperate Journalist release their new You Get Used To It EP.

Oddly out tomorrow, Failure release the first of four new EPs this year, In The Future EP, and there are some excellent deals on buying all four upfront on that page. While released last week, just after I “went to press” on Friday, the excellent Lederman De Meyer EP A Tribe of My Own.

In compilations and reissues, the Levellers release We The Collective today, a collection of old songs in acoustic form, and Cleopatra have re-released – or at least made available again – Spahn Ranch’s highpoint (IMHO) Architecture this week.

Coming up, Garbage re-release Version 2.0 on PIAS on 22-June, and there’s to be a new album next year, while Mansun’s Attack of the Grey Lantern gets a 21st Anniversary re-issue (and it looks to be seriously lavish) on 08-June.

Other Things

This week Infest added Cubanate (!) to the line-up.

Killing Joke mark their 40th anniversary this year with a whole host of tourdates, including long-awaited US dates and a night at the Roundhouse in London on 17-November.

The Sound of Belgium documentary is now available for free on BoilerRoom.tv, an excellent (and with accompanying CD series, extensive!) look at an overlooked and vitally important incubator for electronic music. Thanks to my friends over at I Die: You Die for the link.

I meant to mention this the other week, but Terrorizer – the frankly most comprehensive go-to for extreme metal – appears to have gone without trace, and without telling it’s subscribers either.

Also in extreme metal, two exceptional pieces that are well worth reading. Firstly, a piece questioning why metal and it’s fans have become so reactionary, and a piece from VICE about the #killtheking movement that is already taking steps.

Finally, rather sad news in that Caleb Scofield of Cave-In passed away, aged just 39, yesterday.
