/Welcome to the Future/151/Livestreams and new release round-up/13-Nov 2020

Back into lockdown, and this weekly release and events roundup keeps on going. There is still new music to enjoy, hence why I continue these Friday posts. The events listing is still being updated, but obviously, an awful lot is being postponed, cancelled or changed right now.

/transmission – the amodelofcontrol.com podcast – has returned, continuing the run through of the a-z of industrial, with all episodes thus far are here. The latest episode is /transmission/024, which starts on the letter P. /transmission/025 will follow soon.

You can also get it via RSS, on iTunes, on Stitcher, and is also now available on the Google Podcasts App (search “amodelofcontrol”) and Spotify too.

If you want to submit anything to be included here? E-mail me (You know what to do with that to make it work, right?), comment/message on Facebook at the amodelofcontrol.com page, and over on Twitter (@amodelofcontrol).

/This Week/New Releases

A few more from last week – as always there are a slew of releases across the timezones on Fridays! Seeming released a couple of impressive covers, while Ayria (just signed to Artoffact), released the fierce new single Battle Cry.

The ever-excellent Drøne collective, too, released Kenny Campbell’s new album Blackest Ever Buckfast, an intriguing techno-industrial concept album, and it sounds fantastic, too.

Onto this week: and once again, there’s a lot to get through.

Against all the odds, AC/DC have returned, after the death of Malcolm Young – among many other issues too – and frankly POWER UP is vastly better than it has any right to be. I mean, it’s AC/DC, so don’t expect jazz interludes or acoustic balladry, but it’s AC/DC being AC/DC, and many of the songs here are great.

Rather darker is the excellent new album from Icelandic dark/black metallers Katla, Allt þetta helvítis myrkur, whose sound seems to entirely embody the bleak, windswept uplands of that fascinating country. LUNA13 describe themselves as “Black/Bass/Metal”, and their distinct, satanic vibe certainly makes God.dis an interesting listen.

Onto covers albums, and there are two this week. Leæther Strip release a sprawling Skinny Puppy covers album, Throwing Bones, while Marika Hackman has the simply-titled Covers, taking in various of her influences.

Finally, the excellent Katatonia livestream show from the spring has been released in lavish formats as Dead Air, while the latest Swans remaster/reissue is of Children of God / Feel Good Now, finally filling the gap by allowing us to reassess this pivotal Swans album. By my reckoning, that just leaves The Burning World to do, although I suspect we shouldn’t hold our breath for that…

/This Week/Upcoming Releases

Onto new releases now, and the long-awaited new album from DEF NEON, War Beats, finally sees the light of day on 27-Nov. Then into 2021, and Cevin Key releases his latest solo work, the oddly-titled X̱wáýx̱way, on 03-Feb, while two days later, on 05-Feb, Cult of Luna release The Raging River EP.

Also due in 2021 is a new album from The Ludovico Technique, Haunted People, with the first song from it, Live As Myself, released this past week.

A hefty box-set release coming on Cleopatra Records on 04-Dec: Leæther Strip: The Zoth Ommog Years 1989-1999, which if you’re willing to splash the cash, will likely be an excellent overview of the earlier years of one of the most influential electro-industrial artists of all.

/Upcoming/Gigs/Club Nights/Events

Obviously things change at short notice right now, and I’m updating events as they are postponed or cancelled, and also including relevant Livestreams as they are announced.

This weekly listing has now seen a significant overhaul and has moved over to a Shareable calendar format. The below draws direct from a GCal I’ve long maintained, and you can add it to your own calendar views if you wish (GCal link, iCal link), and then you will get dynamic updates as I get them. Otherwise, see the events listing below – click on the links to bring up the Calendar entry.

If you have updates, relevant events for me, or want to tell me about something else, use the contact details above. It goes without saying that any gig or club still in the listing is subject to change at short notice, or may not happen at all.
