/Welcome to the Future/146/Livestreams and new release round-up/09-Oct 2020

We keep going amid the lockdown. There are new releases, and still, new music coming through, and buying music right now is the only way we can help. The events listing is still being updated, but obviously, an awful lot is being postponed, cancelled or changed right now.

/This Week/New Releases

As usual, there are a couple of albums to catch up from last week.

Firstly, Greg Puciato’s debut solo album, Child Soldier – Creator of God, which was released digitally, three weeks early, last week after a “dumb reviewer” leaked it. It turns out to be a wildly eclectic, lengthy album – and it’s not all hardcore blasts, either. Also out last week was the latest album from industrial/noise veteran Ah Cama-Sotz, with the excellent New Skin For Old Tribals.

I spoke to Bootblacks for Stay-in-Fest recently (/Talk Show Host/068), and their new Thin Skies is an excellent – if rather short, at just over half-an-hour – release, groovy, electronic-assisted post-punk that doesn’t have a middling song on it. Perhaps that justifies the short length – all killer, no filler. Also out today is the debut solo release from Renard, Waking Up In A Different World. One of the ex-members of Wolfsheim, I’m sure this will appeal to many of my readers.

Also of note today is a release from a band I’d missed until now – Canadian band METZ. Owing a lot to the noisier end of nineties alt-rock/noise-rock, the new album Atlas Vending is really great, and expect to hear something from it at /TheKindaMzkYouLike/005 the Tuesday after next (20-Oct).

While they might have had issues with labels, but British Black Metal band Reign of Erebus have successfully released their excellent new album De Morte Aeterna, which features two /Stormblast alumni in the band these days…

Oh, and then there’s the new AC/DC single Shot In The Dark

/This Week/Upcoming Releases

Which brings me nicely onto the big announcement this week – after the single dropped, the confirmation of the return of most of the “Back In Black” AC/DC line-up (aside from the late Malcolm Young, of course) for their first new album in six years, POWER UP, which is out 13-Nov.

On 04-Dec, US act Technophobia – a band I wasn’t familiar with until I got a press release this week – release new album Some of Us Are Looking At The Stars, and the first single from it is quite great – look out for coverage of that later in the month.

Two other announcements of note. Swedish group Agent Side Grinder release REMA/X – remixes of their excellent A/X from last year – on 16-Oct, while ACTORS, also recently interviewed on this site (/Talk Show Host/067), release their long-awaited new single Love U More on 30-Oct.

/Upcoming/Gigs/Club Nights/Events

Obviously things have rather changed right now, and I’m updating events as they are postponed or cancelled, and also including relevant Livestreams as they are announced.

This weekly listing has now seen a significant overhaul and has moved over to a Shareable calendar format. The below draws direct from a GCal I’ve long maintained, and you can add it to your own calendar views if you wish (GCal link, iCal link), and then you will get dynamic updates as I get them. Otherwise, see the events listing below – click on the links to bring up the Calendar entry.

If you have updates, relevant events for me, or want to tell me about something else, use the contact details above. It goes without saying that any gig or club still in the listing is subject to change at short notice, or may not happen at all.
