/Welcome to the Future/139/Livestreams and new release round-up/21-Aug 2020

We keep going amid the lockdown. There are new releases, and still, new music coming through, and buying music right now is the only way we can help. The events listing is still being updated, but obviously, an awful lot is being postponed, cancelled or changed right now.

/This Week/New Releases

A good mix of new releases this week, including a few notable and long-awaited albums.

First up: this website’s album of the past decade (/Countdown/2010s/Albums/20-01) holder, Seeming, returns with their third album today, the still intriguingly titled The Birdwatcher’s Guide to Atrocity. Past Seeming albums have been wild in their scope and reach, and have taken a few listens to fully digest, and this album is no exception. More thoughts to follow…

Swedish EBM artist REIN has been around for a while now, with a steady drip-feed of singles and EPs, and at last out today is debut album Reincarnated. And after eight years, I LIKE TRAINS return with the striking, stark power of KOMPROMAT. Also out this week, is some filthy stoner metal from Master Charger, Origin of the Lugubrious. It’s groovy as fuck and recommended.

KMFDM nodding to dub is nothing new, as they’ve toyed with the style for years, so an entire recasting of some old songs in the form of IN DUB is an interesting development.

/This Week/Upcoming Releases

Quite a few new release announcements this week, too, and they are all returning artists in various ways.

The big one, perhaps, is the long-teased return of Deftones, whose new single Ohms was released last night, and the album of the same title follows on 25-Sep. Then, the first Cabaret Voltaire album in twenty-six years, Shadow of Fear, which being Richard Kirk solo now sees it shorn of vocals, but first track Vasto is a slab of fierce industrial techno.

I’m not gonna lie, I never liked Wolfsheim, I’m afraid. But many readers may be interested to know about the new solo project from Markus Reinhardt, Renard, who releases Waking Up In A Different World on 09-Oct. Then there is “new” material from Mr. Bungle, who have re-recorded their original 1986 demo, along with a few covers, for The Raging Wrath Of The Easter Bunny Demo that is out on 30-Oct.

In other re-issue news, Suicide Commando’s classic, breakthrough album gets a new release on 25-Sep, in the form of Mindstrip Redux. New versions of all of the songs along with the originals too.

/Upcoming/Gigs/Club Nights/Events

Obviously things have rather changed right now, and I’m updating events as they are postponed or cancelled, and also including relevant Livestreams as they are announced.

This weekly listing has now seen a significant overhaul and has moved over to a Shareable calendar format. The below draws direct from a GCal I’ve long maintained, and you can add it to your own calendar views if you wish (GCal link, iCal link), and then you will get dynamic updates as I get them. Otherwise, see the events listing below – click on the links to bring up the Calendar entry.

If you have updates, relevant events for me, or want to tell me about something else, use the contact details above. It goes without saying that any gig or club still in the listing is subject to change at short notice, or may not happen at all.

One notable event coming up – with the postponement of this year’s Infest, there is a 12-hour Stay-in-Fest on Saturday 29-August. Stay tuned for further updates of what is going on that day.
