/Welcome to the Future/104/Events, gigs and new release round-up/25-Oct 2019

Back to the usual routine of weekly Friday posts, containing new music or events to consider. This is the usual amodelofcontrol.com round-up, of new music coming your way this week and soon, as well as a look at the events and gigs in the future, and finally nods to any other notable news that affects artists and music that I cover here.

/transmission – the amodelofcontrol.com podcast – has returned, continuing the run through of the a-z of industrial, with all episodes thus far are here. The latest episode is /transmission/016, the first part of the letter L. /transmission/017 will follow soon.

You can also get it via RSS, on iTunes, on Stitcher, and is also now available on the Google Podcasts App (search “amodelofcontrol”) and Spotify too.

If you want to submit anything to be included here? E-mail me (You know what to do with that to make it work, right?), comment/message on Facebook at the amodelofcontrol.com page, and over on Twitter (@amodelofcontrol).

/This Week/New Releases

A note about the releases that I feature here. This has never been intended to cover every single release in that week. It is more about highlighting notable releases, by either bands that I’ve long written about, artists that I’m intrigued by, or simply music that I like – and by extension that my readers may like.

That said, in weeks like this one, it does feel like I’m writing about every possible new release. There will be no post next Friday, by the way, as I’ll be in Whitby – so next one on 08-Nov.

The first album from the new phase of Swans – after Michael Gira effectively disbanded the last formation of the band in the wake of The Glowing Man – is the sprawling leaving meaning. – twelve songs, ninety-three minutes long, and it’s fucking glorious. It is very much a return to his pitch-dark folk period, with gentle melodies and brutal undercurrents that shock and surprise when they come.

Elsewhere, London cider-fuelled punks Foxcunt release their solid debut album A Visit From Foxcunt (and they launch the album at a show tomorrow in Hoxton), while the elegant, chamber-pop-filth of Cigarettes After Sex is back with a second album, Cry, and Tempers release Private Life.

Of course, the release of a new album by Mayhem (Daemon) has been accompanied by a whole host of unpleasant stories around their notorious past (again), while a second Sunn O))) album this year is Pyroclasts, and Alcest return with Spiritual Instinct.

Then there is a ton of Hands releases this week. Greyhound tell it like it is with A Storm Is Coming, the Last Days of S.E.X. return with Close To Destruction And Still Beautiful, Mono No Aware release Mujoo, and Crystal Geometry release the bruising State of Play EP (some of the best industrial techno I’ve heard this year, as it goes).

A couple singles this week, too – The Gothsicles release IDDQD, which includes a fun cover of Oh My Goth!, and a new single (and video) for the upcoming, posthumous Leonard Cohen album has been released. Happens to the Heart is a quite lovely song – and the video is gorgeous and heartbreaking at the same time.

/This Week/Upcoming Releases

A couple of notable releases announced this week. Last year’s album of the year winners on this site, Promenade Cinema, return with single The Arch House on 31-Oct, with their second album Exit Guides to follow early in 2020. Then, Matt Hart releases his debut album Terra 3808 on 02-Nov.

Sad times. Confirmation that Arnocorps are going on hiatus.

While following the fabulous WaxTrax! documentary, another industrial doc about Chicago industrial is coming, but looking at the roots and growth of the wider scene. I’ve been musing about doing something in the form of an aural history of the British industrial scene for this site, so look out for first comment about that soon.

Look out for /Tuesday Ten/387, /Transmission/017, and /Into The Pit/209 coming soon. Sorry for the delay on some of these – events in my life recently have reduced the amount of time I can spend on the site for a time.
