/Welcome to the Future/087/Events, gigs and new release round-up/14-Jun 2019

It’s Friday, therefore time for the usual amodelofcontrol.com round-up of new music coming your way this week and soon, as well as a look at the events and gigs in the future, and finally nods to any other notable news that affects artists and music that I cover here.

transmission – the amodelofcontrol.com podcast – had begun the run through of the a-z of industrial, with all episodes here. The latest episode was released a few months ago (transmission: 012). transmission: 013 will be out as soon as I have the time to rebuild the whole damned thing…

You can also get it via RSS, on iTunes, on Stitcher, and is also now available on the new Google Podcasts App (search “amodelofcontrol”).

If you want to submit anything to be included here? E-mail me (You know what to do with that to make it work, right?), comment/message on Facebook at the amodelofcontrol.com page, and over on Twitter (@amodelofcontrol).

/This Week/New Releases

I go away for a week, and nearly get buried in the deluge of new releases and announcements when I get back. So this is covering new releases over the past couple of weeks, and then all that has been announced too.

New releases first: Perhaps the most notable new release has been the first new release proper from Cubanate in nearly two decades, and Kolossus certainly delivers the goods. More on it on /Tuesday Ten/371. Other notable returns – from very different acts! – see C/A/T release Act-2, and London band The Comet Line are back after some years with Candidates for Love (I reviewed their self titled debut nearly seven years ago on /But Listen/127). An album released in sadder circumstances is Final Transmission, from Cave in – an album that pulls together the last work of the band with Caleb Scofield, who died last year.

And we’re not done. Also out in the past week or so: Dirty K – The River of Ruthless Torment, Fïx8:Sëd8 – Warning Signs, KOLLAPS – Mechanical Christ, and finally Sheffield space-rockers Awooga – Session EP, all of which are on my “to listen” list at the moment as I catch up after holidays.

/This Week/Upcoming Releases

Onto upcoming release announcements. Set your calendars for 23-Aug, that’s for sure.

That single day sees the release of the following: most notably, the return of industrial legends Numb, with their first album in god-knows-how-long, in the form of Mortal Geometry. Why are Numb so important? Hear me talk about them on I Die: You Die’s We Have a Technical: 160 a couple of years back.

Two long-awaited releases on Dependent come out that day, too. Firstly, synthpop heroes IRIS release Six (DE/UK/NA), and Empirion release RESUME (DE/UK/NA). More on IRIS in particular to come.

As well…Chicago experimental industrial band HIDE are returning quickly with their second album Hell Is Here, and the first track Chainsaw is absolutely brutal (the video gives context). They also play the UK at the beginning of October. A rather change in styles, now – the new Sleater Kinney single (produced by St. Vincent, and it shows) has a *fabulous*, fun lyric video, and the album The Center Won’t Hold comes 23-Aug.

Other releases coming – Cervello Elettronico release TOP DED CTR next week, Body of Light release their second album Time to Kill on 26-Jul (the first was brilliant), and the hulking, furious noise of Blanck Mass looms back into view on 16-Aug, and the new album is Animated Violence Mild.

Into September, and the Autumn release schedule is beginning: Bat for Lashes releases Lost Girls on 06-Sep, while the Mongolian rock band The HU – who’ve been something of a viral sensation this year, and are now playing an extensive European tour – release their much-anticipated debut album Gereg on 13-Sep.

A few new songs to note, too – Misery Loves Co. have released their latest, brooding new song Way Back Home, IDLES have announced new 7″ single Mercedes Marxist, and as the release of their third album gets ever closer, 3TEETH dropped the video for President X this morning – by far the best track from the new album Metawar yet.

Maybe the flood of reissues is beginning to slow, but The Chemical Brothers are to reissue Surrender, as it’s twenty. Fuck. That said, the revelation of how much was lost in the Universal fire a few years ago will give many pause for thought. Certainly lots of priceless musical history lost in that.
